Here's a random thought. The original Transformers Universe line was tied into the then-current TF Armada and TF Energon, by saying that a damaged Unicron had drawn TFs from countless eras to fight in his arena, to feed off their aggression and to select the finest warriors to serve him, etc etc. It was not a solid connection, but there was the loose association between the two series. Now we've got TF Animated, which starts by saying that long ago there was a great war between Autobots and Decepticons. Who thinks that perhaps the new Universe line, the Classics 2.0 series, will be tied into the Animated Universe by saying that the characters and toys in that series are some of the characters who were involved in that war?
Eh? Isn't Universe now Classics continuity (US Marvel minus G2)? Well except those reality hopping limbs (freebie combiners). They're pretty much a plot device for TF crossovers.
I was thinking of the story that Hasbro sometimes prints on the package. The original Universe toys had that story about Unicron, I'm just wondering if maybe Hasbro will write the Universe backstory in such a way that it could, potentially, be a tie in to Animated (purely in a "this is one possible history for Animated" kind of thing.) I suppose the test would be if the rumoured Classics 2.0 Ratchet ends up with a headsculpt that looks like a younger version of his animated headsculpt, mixed with how he looked back in G1.
I see the old universe line having nothing to do with this besides the name. Universe is just the name hasbro uses for the non-main line stuff. It's still classics 2.0 to me. Hopefully all the molds will be line originals with the exeption of store exclusives.
I got that impression from Botcon. It's kind of a filler line, padding out between waves/seasons of Animated toys and giving collectors a little less reason to bitch every 30 minutes.
