I really dont know anything about this comic, but I see it mentioned in a lot of the X-threads. What makes it good? How are the two characters portrayed? Who are the bad guys? I dont mind spoilers, and am considering picking up back issues if it sounds good.

    Definately pick it up!

Basically Deadpool and Cable books weren't doing that hot on their own so they got the wierd idea of pairing them up. Surprisingly it worked. Cable is a hardass and Deadpool is a smartass.

So the whole idea is that Cable decides he will be the savior of all humanity. He creates his own island called Providence where anyone is welcome. They have freedom and Cable rules over it justly and fairly. However he is also Judge, jury, and executioner for any problems that arise.

Deadpool on the other hand is bringing down a cult trying to unify humanity into a single form. Think "1984" meets that South park episode with the future people. Cable gets involved with the same people to use their power to further his own cause. During this, Deadpool and Cable have a merging where both can bodyslide/teleport because of the exchange of DP's healing ability and Cable's tech-organics.

Then Cable goes insane, DP must save him. Cable somehow goes universe hopping and DP must follow. This ties into House of M. Eventually DP finds Cable as a baby being nursed by that Universe's Sinister, who is surprisingly nice. Both eventualy return home and Cable grows up from baby to adult in one issue. During the issue, Cable and DP have a pretty fun exchange. Cable also looks a lot like Nate Grey during some of the issue. Nice homage.

Currently the story had Deadpool in a computer scam with the ultimate virus that masks itself as a hard drive which masks itself as something else. Complicated. Anyway, the BAD Girls appear, fun female jokes abroad. Then Luke Cage and Iron Fist appear. Heroes for hire jokes abroad. Turns out Weasel was one of the culprits in the stolen computer thingy. The villain was apparently partially revealed last issue but the climax comes I think on Wednesday. And that's where we are.

This is definitely one of my favorite comics. Wreckgar got the plot summary good. Basically, this comic has everything: Great humor, great action, great dialogue, great storyline. It's been tight since the first issue, I've never been disappointed by an issue and each one leaves me grinning like an idiot(except for the one with Deadpool and the aging adolescent Cable bonding in a bar, which was really emotional and probably my favorite issue so far). Seriously, this book is a must-have as far as I'm concerned.

Don't forget great art. Patrick Zircher's pencils are a perfect fit for this title. I loved his cartoon version of Cable and the two-page spread of Deadpool fighting an army of clowns.

Thought army of clowns was cool, nothing will ever beat the Deadpool 1/2 where he kills the clones of crappy dead villains and heroes.

I pretty much agree with everything said in this thread. Cable & Deadpool is a great series. Humor and action rolled into one. The great thing about the humor is that it ranges from obvious to subtle.

I really need to get everything prior to Enema of the State.

Thanks to all that replied, sounds pretty good. I like the sounds of Deadpool killing off clones, that is something that would be entertaining to see. I think the last time I really enjoyed these two characters in a book would have been back when X-force launched, which really seems ridiculous at this point.
