What's your opinion?
READ ARTICLE FIRST!!!
No. Judges need to learn to deal with stuff appropriately. That's just ridiculous.
Having read the article, I think the 7 cents is irrelevant.
Who the hell commanded this trial? Judge Dredd?
EDIT: Now seeing the post above, I'd say let Judge Dredd unleash hell.
It doesn't matter if it was $0.07 or $70. He beat and robbed a 73 year-old man, so he deserves to suffer the consequences.
Did you read the article?
The punk beat up an old man and robbed him. The fact that he only got away with seven cents is not the point, the assault is.
He should have found a wealthier 73-year-old to punch in the face and rob at gunpoint.
I edited my post, Split, I was a victim of "just reading the title" syndrome.
Assault and Battery + Petty theft. Petty makes it a misdemeanor. The attack, well, I think that carried the weight of the punishment. I'm not sure on the how hard of punching in the face and knocked down. Let's just say I'm not surprised on the judges sentencing. But I'll stop there.
People gotta stop thinking short term in their life. F*ck Carpe Diem.
But he got charged for the robbery. I don't agree with that. Assault, battery, yes. But the robbery charge was dumb.
Semantics. It counts as a robbery because he stole from him and the goal was monetary.
I doubt they convicted based on the amount stolen. It was more to do with the way they did it. Violently and by gunpoint. Thats classed as First Degree Robbery hence the conviction.
someone tell the judge it is just $0.07!!!!!!!!! banghead:
Protip: Actually read the article before posting your reaction to the title.
He got charged for First Degree Robbery.
Punching a 73-year-old man in the face for all the money he had on him is detestable. And then he lied about it in court. Whether it was seven cents or seven grand, doesn't matter.
Y'know, I just realised we'd get a lot fewer of these "so didn't read the actual article" posts if the thread titles themselves weren't so far from the point I question if the OP even read the article him/herself.
Hope the 7 cents was worth it asshole
Sooner or later these teens have to learn REAL LIFE is not a video game, there are life changing consequences when you beat and rob an old man, it's immaterial that the old guy didn't have a wallet filled with $100 bills.
A harsh sentence, yeah. What's that old saying? Don't do the crime if you can't do the time?? Sadly, he's screwed up his life...hopefully other teens will sit up and take notice.
