I watched the Duke/UNC game tonight and my was it a good game... But it also reminded me of the teams that I love to hate... So I decided to do this thread... What teams do you love to hate??? And let's do all sports since we have many international friends whom I'm sure have teams they hate as well... And PLEASE be CIVIL!!! Here are mine... NCAA Men's Basketball: Duke University They beat my UNLV Rebels in 1991... Granted we beat them for the title in 1990, but still... Every Rebel fan remembers 1991's bitter end... They have a great basketball program, don't get me wrong, but their wholesome, do good image I just can't stomach... Next would probably be the entire PAC-10 with the exception of UCLA/Arizona... I have a lot of friends who went to Cal and they ALWAYS make the PAC-10 sound like it's more important that it really is... OVERRATED!!! NCAA Men's Football: THE Ohio State University THE??? Why do they have to stress the "THE???" Hated it when they beat Miami for the title a few years ago... Then Clarett decided to end his career... Next would most likely be Nebraska... But THE Ohio State wins by a landslide... MLB: New York Yankees Is there a reason not to hate them??? I think if you're not a Yankees fan and you love baseball, you'll naturally hate them... For me it's more disliking George Steinbrenner than anything else... We used to have the drummers out in the left field bleachers... It was very unique to the A's fanbase... Then Steinbrenner complained and they weren't allowed to drum anymore... I also believe in farmed talent instead of bought talent... Next in line would be a toss up between the Giants, Dodgers, and Angels... Giants because they're our crosstown rivals and their fanbase is like the polar opposite of A's fans... Dodgers because a famous gimp hit a homerun and won the World Series... And the Angels because they give us the most problems in the AL West... NFL: Denver Broncos I took particular glee when my Niners stomped them in the Super Bowl... But that was ancient history... Now my Niners suck... But they're still my team... It just seemed to me that once Denver won their first Super Bowl, all of a sudden I see Broncos fans EVERYWHERE... Seemed awfully fairweather if you ask me... Plus I hated John Elway since his days at Stanford... And Bill Romanowski's years at Denver furthered my dislike for them... Next in line??? Oakland Raiders... Why am I an A's fan but a Niners fan as well??? Simple... The Raiders were in LA when I was growing up... Which in my mind means they're "tainted..." NBA: Los Angeles Lakers Can't stand Kobe's "me" mentality... Also they're in LA which is a definite, resounding NO for me... Next would be the Sacramento Kings... Those cowbells are just horrible... NHL: Colorado Avalanche I'm a Sharks fan... Each year we lose to the Avs, I hate them even more... I started hating Paul Kariya, my favorite NHL player when he went to the Avs...
I hate the Yankees, but I kind of respect the mentality they have that a team should look like a team. Not so much a team, but I loathe Kobe Bryant. He's a badass for sure, but I think his head is a little too big for what he brings to the team. There are so many times when he obviously doesn't have a shot that even he could make but he takes it anyway just because he doesn't trust his teammates to back him up. I still like watching him play though, it just pisses me off when he's sucking ass and still hogging the ball and makes me very happy when they lose because of it. The NBA team that I really love to hate is the Rockets. TMac is pretty good, but not good enough to hold up a team on his own. Yao may be good someday, but it sure as hell isn't gonna be this year. He's way too weak and not nearly aggressive enough. He's shots get blocked and he loses the ball way too many times for a player who has height on everybody. Plus he has no control over his arm and gets a lot of fouls from elbowing people in the face. I laugh everytime they lose.
MLB: Yankees and Braves NBA: Whichever team Shaq plays for. NCAA Football: Oklahoma and Texas A&M, though the latter is more 'respected rival' since '99, IMO. OU, on the other hand can suck it. NFL: Everybody in the NFC North that isn't located in Chicago, and by prior association, Tampa Bay, who have the added bonus of having Simms at QB, making it that much easier to hate them. Dallas Cowboys: I don't hate the Cowboys per se, I hate Jerry Jones. Ever since that carpetbagger came in and fired Tom Landry, I've wanted nothing to do with that team. Irvin and Deion sure as hell didn't help either. When Jones leaves/dies, then we'll talk. Baltimore Ravens: Fucking Modell, moving the Browns like that. Whichever team Terrell Owens plays for.
Yankees, Braves, Raiders, Red Wings, Devils, and just to add some flavor, most Special Olympics teams.
MLB- Yankee’s for sure, again like RW said mostly because your either and Yankee fan or you’re a Yankee hater if your into baseball. And they’re in the same division as my Jays sooo. NHL- Colorado Avalanche and Dallas Stars NBA- LA Lakers
MLB: Yankees and Angels NFL: Cowboys, & Raiders (Yeah, they're local...but I still look at them as the team that bailed on my 11 year old self when I was a huge Raider fan just getting into football. As for the "but they're back" argument...I've had ex-girlfriends move back, but it doesn't mean I go back there either). I don't hate the 49ers...just the York family that kicked out Eddie and decided they don't want to pay real $$$ for a real team.
MLB: Yankees and Braves. Yankees for having the pompous owner and fans who brag about their championships like they are the ones who got them. Braves for (almost) always choking in PO and in the same division as my team Mets. Can't wait for the day when they stop being good and their fans jumping off the bandwagon faster than you can say Braves. They can't even sell out PO games how pathetic. NFL: Patriots, Rams, Dallas, Raiders. I don't hate them per se but can't stand them for number of reasons. Pats for having owner that I hate, and I can't stand them winning SB after SB so I was delighted they didn't make it this year. Rams for being the thorn on my 49ers side most of 80s and 90s. Good thing they suck now. Dallas for Jerry Jones and winning 5 SB same as 49ers but they also lost SBs so they suck. Raiders for their fans who think they are better than anyone but they'll never equal 49ers in championships. And York SUCKS he's the worst owner in NFL he should sell the team ASAP to whoever wants to win. NBA: Kings, Clippers. Hey I am a Lakers fan but I have to admit this team is in serious decline and Kobe himself can't carry the team. Buss needs to fire Kupchait the GM and get someone like Jerry West who can actually improve the team. Oh yeah Kings suck cuz of the Cow Bells and taking Artest from Lakers. Clips for having a crappy owner and despite their good fortune this year they'll never win a championship. NHL: Devils, Flyers. Just for being in the same division as my team NY Rangers.
MLB: Yankees NHL: Montreal Canadiens (yeah, they're starting to suck) and Philadelphia Flyers (my dad HATES that team)
NHL: Ottawa Senators: As a Leafs follower, you can't help but hate the provincial rival that is our better in every single way. Detroit Red Wings: A hold over from the old Campbell Conference Days. For a time, the Leafs/ Wings rival was the equal to the historic Leafs/ Habs rivalry. I grew up hating detroit because my dad hated detroit, and it just held over. Philadelphia Flyers: Don't really hate them, but they are a buddy's favourite team, so I put on the act to piss them off. MLB: Hate the entire sport and every team associated with it. Take your pick. NBA: Love the game, hate the league. Take your pick. (American) Football: The Cleveland Browns. I don't know why, just don't like the look of them. (Real) Football: Manchester United: If you're a Manc, you're also a wank. REAL Madrid: You're an overrated piece of shit, Beckham! Glasgow Rangers: Stupid religious garbage interfering with the game in Scotland. Besides, my Falkirk bairns couldn't be beaten by these morons. Glasgow Celtic: Stupid religious garbage interfering with the game in Scotland, Besides, they managed to beat my Falkirk bairns... bastards.
NFL: Packers NBA, NHL, MLB: Not interested, don't follow, don't care NCAA BB: Duke NCAA Hockey: North Dakota
Dude that owns Oracle tried to buy them last year for an INSANE amount of $$$, even by NFL standards, and York turned it down saying he wants to pass the team down to his son when he dies
