What do you plan of doing with your refund? Im goina get a car, pay for botcon, and maybe ge a Big Screen TV!
Whatever it is, you'll have to wait until Feb to get your refund. The IRS is already behind (blame Congress re: AMT relief) and won't get around to processing most until late January or February. Also, you don't want to be getting a large refund from the IRS or state that you pay taxes to anyway. All it means is that you've given the government an interest free loan for the year. Oh, and not everyone gets a refund.
I won't be making any plans for my refund until I actually get it. Last year I bought a PS3 after filing, then the IRS kept the return for my wife's delinquent student loan. Good news at least, we got it out of collections and it is current again, she could even get more money now. But at least IF I get a return this year, it won't go to that.
what refund, i think i owe this time.... but if i do, most likely it'll just go into my savings for later.
I usually get $1,200 fed and $650 state! I was unemployed for a few weeks, but i am expecting close to that! And I do Rapid Refund when I do mine. I dont mind paying a lil extra to get money sooner.
Ding ding ding, winnah! Financial year ends June 30 here, so I still got a while. I don't usually got more than about $300 back.
I get a little more now since I have a child, but it still wont be too much. I really dont have any plans for it at all right now.
I'm afraid that I won't get one this year. Seems my wife wasn't getting federal taxes taken out of her paychecks, despite filling out the paperwork 3 times. Granted I'm a much larger earner than she is, but NO taxes for a year is going to end up eating up the difference.
I'm going to spend some of it on Botcon and the rest is going to picking up an old school arcade machine.
I usually spend mine on whatever work my car needs, and hope there will be something left for something fun. Probably not this year, tho. --Moony
You say interest free - I say money safely hidden that I couldn't spend. For someone irresponsible like me that claims zero dependents and basically flushes money down the toilet, it's a godsend.
We qualify for the EIC. Tax-free loans to the government be damned...my federal withholding is near zero and we still get thousands of dollars back every year. I don't think it's possible to get that added into my paycheck throughout the year to minimize my refund. So, whatever. We're finishing paying off the last of our credit card debt, putting some in savings, and buying new living room furniture.
I usually get 4-5gs and I'm single and rent a place. In NYC, if you have to pay taxes, you go to a sucky accountant. I'm probably going to wipe out my debt and try to save up for a place.
