This one is just silver painted by the looks of it. The Chrome exists more on the truck mode.

They definitely got the head right...so far none of the toys have captured the "more silver than blue" head design other than this!

if you read Japanese, it actually says this toy is roughly 23 cm. This is the most direct confirmation we got of exactly HOW BIG it is. So far its looking around the same height/size as TFTM 07 leader prime, but way shorter than 1st edition aoe prime

 

This seems to be the Silver Knight Optimus we've seen in licensed merchandise. While I still wouldn't pay for one of these, I can say unequivocally that this looks way, way better than the US version. If this was the version offered in the US, I might consider it, but not at import prices.

 

It's not the Silver Knight Prime, it's just a more accurate paint job, putting the silver on his head where it is on the movie, in the normal upgraded Western Star Optimus. The head paint on the US version is way off.

I will definitely get the version which has chrome/paint in the correct places for the vehicle mode.

Preorders on AE ended sometime on Sunday. I haven't seen it on HLJ. RK is the only other place I've seen it.

Uhh, yeah..neat clearer pic but IMHO the only nice thing about the toy is the very spiffy new Optimus prime head. Other than that the rest of the toy is utter meh..

 

So is this one of those cases where saying "meh" would be appropriate or inappropriate?

Weapons at least look nicer.

 

I was expecting more paint or at the very least, a darker grey for the unpainted grey plastic. I can see where you guys are coming from with the "meh" comments. The head is cool but it looks like most of the attention to deco went to that instead of the whole body.

One to shove up someone's ass, one to clean my toilet with, and one to set on fire in the dim evening light, whilst roasting marshmallows on it for that unbeaten taste of chewy sweets covered with fragments of aluminium (the vacuumised metal i.e. chrome, for those of you that don't get the reference).

 

Regardless of aesthetics, the general feeling towards the new AOE toys has been positive especially the Dinobots. BUT this leader Prime just looks poor compared to previous leaders and given that the leader class should be the pinnacle of the line.

But I guess we should have expected this following Ultimate Prime from DOTM.

 

look what happens when takara rather than hasbro paints a crappy mold.. it ends up looking pretty decent.. it's still not a good mold, but i'd definitely buy it if it were released here.

i wish hasbro would get their heads out of their asses.

why would they use a darker grey when the lighter grey is more accurate.. at least from the renderings of prime that i've seen.. it's more accurate.

True, but I'm concerned when THIS is what we get from Leader Class when the Deluxe Class is kicking ass and taking names.

It also costs more, unless you live here in New Zealand, in which case the Japanese Transformers are cheaper than any of Hasbro's ones, sometimes even after shipping (and shipping from Japan to NZ is pretty cheap).

As for the darker grey..... Perhaps it wouldn't look so cheap then? I know TakaraTomy have made a figure look much better using darker grey before. I've got solid proof sitting right here on my desk (e.g. Beast Hunters Voyager Optimus Prime - I have both versions).

for this reason alone, I will be holding out and waiting to purchase a new leader class version of Optimus when the second sequel in this series drops. The Leader prime mold from Revenge of the Fallen is arguably one of the best Transformers toys ever, so I'm hoping that Optimus awesome new design will receive this same type of upgrade in the inevitable transformers 5 toyline.
