I would really like to know how the developers never experienced this problem. Don't they spend like 2-3 years designing these and then about another year after its put up for preorder? Did their sample copies not have this problem because it definitely seems widespread.

 

I wonder if gluing a sliver of rectangular plastic to the nub could avoid this? (or likewise, cut a plastic washer and fix it to the rim)

I gave that a little thought. But I think that despite the rounded corner issue on the tabs that they are a bit short to begin with. That is something I would blame the designers for. It looked to me like there was still enough room for the tabs to be pushed in during the click.
Either way Ive just made up my mind to consider them friction joints.

Anyone else having trouble getting the tail to store on his back?
Those two blue tabs dont tab whatsoever.
It just pushes the tail right off ever so slowly once you let go.
