Got to agree, i think that some constructive critisism (particularly based on in hand or even post video review) or reasoned debate is good, and also helps others that view these forums maybe make a more reasoned choice if they are still on the fence about purchase (i have used these forums like this). I also take the point that if TT or 3rd parties or designers or sellers view these threads it does give them a better idea of what people want - most probably dont bother, but forums like this would be one of my go to places of research if i was planning a new version of a character.
Unfortunately, as you say, you always get those who just post how s##t a figure is with no reasoned argument, or start having a go at individuals, or take things too far comparing with other figures (on non comparison threads of course).
On MP45 this figure really grows on you, and even though i liked it from the start, the more photos of it i see the more its character and toon accuracy shine through.
Bro, shades of the Mongol invasion of Japan. The "Chinese" ship builders intentionally built low quality "landing craft" that could not withstand the Kamikaze or divine wind.
MP44 made in China, and there's no love lost between JP and China. That or takara's supervisory team at their China plant suxx bigtime! They still haven't learned from their Fire Convoy clusterfrak!
I know this is a Bumbles spot, but, dude looks like he's bout 12 and a half, of course he's not gonna understand why certain accessories where included! Ha!
Just seems like a weird thing for someone in there 20s to attempt to place value on, or even get enthused about; dudes dad hadnt even hit puberty yet! Im gonna start critiquing toys from the 60s/70s, maybe i just need to try it to understand it...
Im sure we wont get the same gripes about "unnecessary accessories" if/when Armada Prime arrives with a trailer & the ability to interact with minicons; HIS battle station.
Besides that, tho, dude IS funny. Just a weird thing for someone his age to spend $500 on; I would be pissed too.
That is a beautiful thought that I wish more shared here. Thanks for sharing this. I feel the same way about my hobby. I collect these toys because they bring me joy. I choose to focus on the positives simply because I collect them for the positivity they bring me. Why focus on anything else?
I do suggest to those that enjoy the nitpicking to go into concept design and engineering and maybe even comics/illustration. No BS. There's plenty of opportunity out there. You can make these figures come to life on your terms or you can work in the industry.
If you’re talking about the Masterpiece line, it’s Takara-Tomy making the decisions not Hasbro.
They’re doing both, revising some characters and making new ones.
I agree with you but, telling members, who are enjoying what Takara(not Hasbro) are putting out, to continue to “s@&k Hasbro off” is the opposite of I think what you are talking about.
Criticism is great. I think it helps some (including myself) get over some design elements that are questionable by venting ( like his feet) or by hearing other people out.
Just because people can look past some issues doesn’t equate to being mindless drones always on our knees in front of “Hasbro”.
I don’t get it. I don’t get how some people can have so much loathing for a hobby that is so enjoyable.
I understand frustration about some characters not being released yet in Masterpiece form (like Jazz, Seaspray anyone?), but there is no need for insults.
Now back to MP45-
I just showed my wife a comparison of 21 and 45 and she immediately noticed that 45 had more articulation and details that reference the Sunbow cartoon model.
She, being a VW aficionado, said the Chibi 45 is more alike to your everyday VW bug than the model that 21 was based off of.
She never engages in my nerdiness, so I was more than elated to be able to talk to her about it, even if it was a 5 minute convo.
1. Doesn't matter
2. Most of them are just useless redecos or come with an extra accessory or something. This Bumblebee is just a miniature, less accurate version of Bumblebee with an ugly shade of yellow and the face of a bulimic lol
And how many new characters have they made in the last five months, exactly? We still don't have Arcee, Motormaster, or Kup
Made or announced?
No doubt TT has 49, 50 and probably 51 all set and ready to announce. I anticipate we'll get announcements within the next 3 to 4 weeks.
We also still have Blackarachnia and Hound still to come for this year, and Lio starting off 2020.
Interesting....even though I still feel MP-45 still looks like a turd, it's interesting how when you observe them closely they seem to have the same amount of kibble as in the volume of it, it just seems to have been displaced differently. Most of MP-45's seems to be in his back as he has a flatter chest and also in the back of his feet hence him having smaller boots. I guess his is more noticeable because it's less tidier than MP-21's. But they seem to have the same amount of kibble. Still a pass though can't justify his price for his looks and size.
Interesting response. Why doesn’t it matter?
Most of the 48 numbered releases are individual characters. A few were redecos, and other redecos have been exclusives or in the plus subline. Though it seems you’re determined to hold onto your view, so see it as you will.
As @SunSwipe5 said Hound, Blackarachnia, and Lio Convoy would make three. Others have been in the works and will likely be announced soon.
No doubt would be nice to see more G1, especially Decepts. However, MP share release schedules with BW and Bayverse too, its not just G1 collectors out here.
I was kinda like WTF when they 1st started the whole redeco thing. You gotta admit tho, now that its getting towards the end of all the prev releases being done, these pics flooding in are looking REEEAL nice. It was the right choice from the design teams; allows the line to be consistent.
Sideswipe and the Seekers are starting to look a lil suspect, tho. Plus Grimmy looks like he forgot his Wheaties. Im sure the design teams sees the same thing.
I hope for newbies too, but am not surprised theyre tying "loose ends", as the line didnt have a real direction when it started. "Be preeepaaaaared!"
Well, his roof, yes.
I don’t think ‘partsformer’ conveys what I meant to convey; my apologies.
To what I was referring was that his chest is not the real roof of the VW, it’s ‘fake’ - how do we usually refer to figures with that quality? MPs I thought avoided this engineering ‘shortcut’ as a mark of quality in the line.
I don’t think there’s a standardized term for transformations that make use of duplicate (or “fake”) parts.
The MP line has utilized “fake” parts from the beginning, in areas where the “real” parts differ significantly enough between robot mode and alt mode. Avoiding this technique has never been a mark of quality in the line.
Faux parts have been apart of the masterpiece line since MP-01. His vehicle grill and bot mode abdomen grill have been different in every model prime.
Ah, I do get what you're saying now. But the very first MP Convoy had a faux grille. Also, it is not being used as a "cheat" or "shortcut"; i.e., it's not a duplicate molded part being used between modes as an easier way to get it from point A to point B. It's used when the part requires a completely different mold between alt and robot mode to achieve accuracy, like Bumblebee's chest, which is not shaped at all like a car roof. Truth be told it's probably more difficult engineering to find space to hide the unused part in each mode.
Of course, some people may not like the idea, which is a different issue
No term has been coined other than faux parts.
Masterpiece has never avoided this feature nor is it a mark of quality. If we look to MP 1, he had a faux ab grill. This was necessary to change the shape, since the truck grill was more squarish and would not look aesthetically pleasant due to proportions.
Other Faux parts early on involve MP Red Alert with the faux wheels on his shoulder to match the animation model.
The first “Sunstreaker fake part under real part” IIRC, is MP 9 with his faux lower ab car hood. Followed by MP 22 Ultra Magnus’ faux baby wheels on his feet. Let’s not forget the coneheads’ heads. Imagine if they used the real nosecone instead of using the canopy.
I wouldn’t say this a short cut, per say, more of a necessity in order to maintain proportions and “mass shifting” from alt mode to bot.
Fake parts, they’re not too bad, heck they can help a lot.
Totally agree! Heck they can even improve a figure’s silhouette.
