Is there any advantage to paying AJP now with gift cards? Genuinely curious since I preordered this day 1. If I just pay when it ships I still get my original preorder price right? Or is this simply people want it to be paid in full before it ships?

No advantage other than budgeting... I'd guess! (And locking in the present exchange rate, if that were to be advantageous.)

One disadvantage to paying ahead with Gift Card (and the reason I had a balance sitting around) is that if for some reason you end up with a defective figure, the refund you receive will be in the form of a GC. The refund is be processed back to the payment method you used, so if you've paid by card, thats where your funds will be returned.

A serious recession is always near with fiat money. Ya just can never accurately predict exactly when.

A serious recession is possible regardless of any type of money. How can you make serious money otherwise? ;)

...and what? It’ll get marked down from $449 to $300? A lot of us are already getting that discount.

LOL I’m still getting my money together to pay for these bad boys. Hopefully, no emergencies or nothing out of the ordinary comes up for the rest of the year.

The advantage plays out in the form of a gamble - what is the exchange rate when you pay vs. the exchange rate when it ships.

My price for MP-44 is ¥34,276 shipped. When I paid for it, the exchange rate was about $1 to ¥113.46, so I wound up paying $302.10.

If it were to ship today at today’s rate of $1 to ¥107.72, it would have cost me $318.20.

So I paid about $16 less than today’s rate. The problem is the rate could have easily gone in the other direction - we just never know.

Fun fact - Back in 2011, the exchange rate was terrible, often around $1 to ¥76.5. If I were to purchase MP-44 back then, it would have cost me $448.05.

Showing love for the genuine Optimus Prime, with a backpack attitude. No blue text here, just pointing out the accuracy and how excited I am about this figure. Can't wait !!!!

Doesn't seem like I'll be able to make the pre-order on AJP. May have to wait for the second run, or buy it from an eBay seller since the e-tailers in Australia are charging way too much - cheapest I could find was $380 USD without shipping or tax.

Can't wait for you all to receive your copies and share photos! Put all the speculations up till this point to rest, and put him in awesome poses and group shots. I'm dying for more images! The wait is killing me. :D

Yes, Optimus Prime always had a cool little backpack design that the Sunbow guys invented to cover the gaping hole in the back of the toy.

    OPTIMUS_PRIME2.JPG

Some of the very earliest toon accurate toys, the SCF collection immortalized it in plastic back in 2001:

    10728 - Copy.jpg

The more recent Takara metal colle figure did an even better job:

    10728 - Copy (2).jpg

But it stays true to the animation model. It's slim, compact, and doesn't look like he's got a tent and 6 weeks of camping supplies in there.

Look at how sleek a side view of Optimus SHOULD be:

    side.JPG

The backpack is just an unfortunate necessity of the design. It is was it is. I understand why they did it, but anyone that's truly honest with themselves will accept that it's just plain too big. And that's fine! Live with the big backpack. Lord knows I've made peace with Hot Rod's giant backpack!

But don't cherry pick poorly illustrated frames out of thousands to PROVE that the gigantic ass oversized backpack is "100 percent accurate."

You guys love this toy and I'm happy for you and in a matter of WEEKS now it's gonna be yours!! That's great. I am not saying it's a piece of shit at all.

I'm merely stating that the backpack is way too big.

It was needed for Bee 2.0 and Sunstreaker. But I don’t think Hound shows too much of a backpack.

It is too big, but as I pointed out in the last couple of pages, some of the best animated scenes (where Prime is not only drawn well, but also dynamically and nicely-proportioned) he has a large backpack. We’re not cherry-picking frames, we’re cherry picking episodes ;) . Not as large as MP-44’s, absolutely. Don’t think anyone has said that.

Hehehe...not me. I'm waiting for the possible inevitable 3rd party modded, and trailerless KO. If that does come to pass some day, I am hoping that the back pack is reworked and reduced. I can do without the voice chip and speaker. Also, I hope they tackle the back of legs, and feet planters in the heals. Looks horrible. I was hoping this guy would've been a bit more seamless..don't get me wrong, MP44 is leaps and bounds over MP10, and MP01. But its not perfect.
