It’s amazing they went with toon accuracy. Of course some still prefer MP10 or other options from third parties. The thing is that this figure is made to feel like it’s out of the screen, and some people have waited 16 years to get the exact Prime they grew up with. This figure is the most accurate Prime we can have and it’s a great opportunity for collectors and fans to unite around one character. It can be seen as an achievement or as a start to a complete new collection for everyone. I like the way this thing shows an awesome toy and a childhood character at the same time.

I am and was always in love with the cartoon aesthetic—so much so that at first I didn’t like the look of mp-10! Eventually I realized through watching reviews how great of a figure he was compared to mp-01 and through him I gained an appreciation of the updated-g1 direction the line was going in. (Even though one could argue the line was always trying for that aesthetic since the beginning, I always thought mp-01 and his blocky nature always captured g1 toon prime better than mp-10.)

Yet when the line started shifting more towards toon accuracy to an extent past that of mp-01, I knew I’d go broke in a matter of months!:p

Between the toon-accurate bot modes and real-life vehicle modes I couldn’t be happier. The changing aesthetics between modes seem to necessitate complex—yet intuitive—transformations and the less is more approach works really well in a display. Once I have a couple bots on a shelf sitting in front of a plane gray wall, the colors pop and give off an almost modern vibe. Both the internal complexities of the recent figures, and their blocky-colored silhouettes give me a newfound appreciation of each character design.

Toon direction is a dream come true for me. I fashion my comics in the spirit of the G1 cartoon and with the toon MPs, I can fully live out my childhood dream of playing out scenarios in my head.

I’ve waited 35 years for this Prime. I would have waited an eternity for this.

I remember as a kid that as much as I loved the toys, I was always gutted that a large majority of them didnt resemble what we saw on screen (I'm looking at you Ironhide).

Of course over the years I learned why it was that these characters turned out the way they did.

Back 15 + years ago when MP01 was revealed I couldnt believe we were going to get a version of Prime that was as close as I'd ever seen to representing what we saw on screen. I didnt think for a second that 15 years later Takara would be smashing it out of the park with what is now the 3rd version. Hes everything the 1984 me could of ever dreamed of :D

    I imagined:

Roller: Optimus dead. Free to hit up Roller Girl, make some home videos & change name to Dirk.

I’m only 35 as well. And I fully understand you being a G1 fan. Others think we need to be older, but our life was hell wasnt it? Only finding toys from the cartoon we loved in yard sales. And then when G2 finally came we could buy the characters we wanted.... except the colors were all fucked up and wrong.

Terrible memories haha. And action masters? *shudder*
