I think they get it, but they're still entitled to buy something they want.
If it makes you feel any better, I've seen more people say they're passing on this (across the sites I visit).
Nobody will know how this sells until preorders are filled.

it could be (prime seems even more "panelish" than meggy), as it could be not, we'll know for sure only after he's out.
Surely prime being the flagship of the franchise has a lot to do with his price.

I’m probably among the few who have said that they are happy to pay “whatever the cost” to acquire MP-44.

I wish to stress that this is hyperbole at its finest - of course I live in the real world and wouldn’t entertain spending considerably more than has been advertised for MP-44. I’m simply super excited for his release.

At the end of the day, all of my expenses are covered, I have savings, and whatever’s left goes towards my entertainment because life is too damn short to be a slave to the man 100% of the time.

Why not? Even if Prime has taken up a lot of resources to design, it still must be less work than designing 3-4 MPs in one year. They're allocating those resources to BW, MPM or other lines (which perhaps are selling well). And since Optimus Prime always sells, and everyone will want one to complete their collection, selling him at 50,000 could be their way of saving themselves.

MP-10 was 22,000 Yen. MP-10B (no trailer or roller) was 12,000. I guess the trailer does take up a fair bit of the budget. So maybe MP-44 would be 27,000 without the trailer? And a little bit less without certain accessories?

Regarding complexity comparison, What makes you say he’s less complex than Megatron V2 and Dinobot? They all seem to be at least on par from what we can see in photos. Truth is neither of us can tell for sure until MP-44 is in-hand and we can make a transformation and parts count comparison.

MP Beast Wars Megatron has a list price of ¥37,800, that’s only a difference of ¥12,200 (about $107 USD at the current exchange rate) from MP-44. While BW Megatron may be bigger, MP-44 has the trailer, Roller, and more accessories. Considering three two of those are articulated human figures (that we’ve seen, three counting Carly), they add to the total parts count and related factors more than the accessories of the others you mention.

The most likely reason for the price is as other have mentioned- Talara is trying to reposition the MP line as a toy line at a higher price point, plain and simple.[/QUOTE]
Here’s the thing though, there’s not just one reason for the price being what it is. There are multiple factors including those we’ve discussed plus other business and economic factors.

Is part of the reason for the high price due to Takara-Tomy repositioning the MP line at a higher price point? Sure it is.

Has that repositioning been without an increase in what the line delivers? Not at all, considering the increased articulation, paint application, and accessories.

Will people still complain? Yes indeed.

If you count the trailer as 15.000¥, Prime will cost 35.000¥...

MP10 didn't have extra heads, a gas hose, the gas refueler whatever that thing is that attached to the drone, didn't have the other drone, a joint for the axe itself.... came with 1 human, not 2.... nor Starscream parts nor an electronic voice box... these might seem small and physically they are, but all those extras factor into the cost.

You aren't just paying for the base figure and trailer, you're paying for everything in it. I think it's inevitable that Takara will make a standardized release without the Starscream parts, extra parts, et al.

I was using the same proportions between MP-10 and MP-10B.

    MP-10: 22,000
MP-10B (with Ion Blaster, Energon Axe, Matrix): 12,000
Trailer, Spike and Roller value: 10,000

    MP-44: 50,000
    MP-44 robot (with Ion Blaster, Energon Axe, Matrix): 27,272 (50,000 x 12/22)
    Trailer, Spike, Roller, other accessories: 22,727 (50,000 x 10/22)

    Does that make sense?

Lol. C’mon man , relax. I was just entertaining your comment. Trying to bring a little light hearted discussion to an otherwise disappointing thread . It’s all good if you want to block me . I’ll take no offense .

If MP-44 itself had been sold a year ago at the price difference you’ve mentioned, then you’d have a point.

The prices you’re comparing are for two different figures. Takara-Tomy doesn’t design their figures to a specific price point the way Hasbro does, especially with the MP line. Using the MSRP for MP-36 as a basis for what MP-44 should cost is a moot point.

Hahah, I did wonder if I’d have to satisfy a question like this when I was posting...

To be honest, the ¥50k price we’ve seen did give me pause at first. It would well and truly put the parcel in the sights of customs, which will undoubtedly add to the cost.

With that said, I managed to import DX9 Gabriel without experiencing that, but it’s always a gamble.

If I am to put a price tag on it, I probably wouldn’t entertain ¥60-70K for a single MP of Prime’s size/contents - unless the exchange rate was incredibly favourable.

I’ll wait and see how Amazon JP and maybe HLJ go, before I do the math for real though. :)

Actually I saw 50000 and did the 30 and 36% calculations, those are numbers I'm interested in.
