This. Optimus has to be one of the easier characters to engineer since they have gone through dozens (hundreds?) of iterations of him already.

What I find most troubling here isn't the price, it's the implicit assertion from fans that they will not accept Takara marketing a high-end Transformers collectible. Why is that? They can't produce "ultimate" versions of these characters and sell them for a requisite price?

Compared to FansToys MotorMaster where the trailer just disappears into the bot, this thing does seem overpriced.

BUT BUT, that's the price of being a FAN right!!!!

Takara is getting so greedy because 3rd party prices are rising and they are loosing customers to 3rd party and KOs.

I can\'t afford MP Megatron nor will have pay over $200 for Optimus. Takara needs to fix this.

After doing more research and talking to "people in the know" 50000 Yen is for a case of 5 (FIVE) MP V3.

Why? Because when you are being delusional, might as well GO BIG!!!

3rd party prices are not rising.

In most cases, you get better quality and size than ever for the price.

Well, here in Canada, MP Megs V2 costs $300 and pretty much every car bot in the last several years has been well over $100, up to $200 in some cases, so this is sadly par for the course now. Prime V3 here will likely cost us AT LEAST $500 after conversion. So... that sucks.

maybe it's priced so high because they need to pay bay off to keep from meddling with the g1ish designs in the new movie?

Optimus Prime is the icon of Transformers, if this doesn't sell well, it will signal to Takara that they can't extort anymore money out of the fanbase....

Would be nice if everyone refused to buy it, but that wouldn't be realistic unfortunately... it's too bad, it would send a big message to Takara if the face of the franchise doesn't sell well...

This would make more sense if this were the first such figure. But it's the 3rd, and the last one is really still quite nice. And there's also the unofficial ones and the KOs...

Actually, I think I get it now. Given what's out there, Takara doesn't expect to sell too many of these. So perhaps it'll be produced in limited quantities and be marketed to this very small, special segment that's willing to pay that price.

There is no way the current MP line can justify that price. That puts them in the realm of real collectibles like hot toys, 3A, SoC, etc. doesn’t matter that I “can” afford it. I don’t want to pay that much for any of the recent MP releases, so I haven’t bought one in forever, even doubly so that I have MP-10. If this isn’t the cost for 2, I will have no more interest in the TT MP line, period. I’m so glad I put together an outstanding MP collection when they were priced appropriately.

There will be significantly less new collectors at this price/quality ratio, outside of 3P, which will kill the line long-term. At 440, the damn thing should be perfect, and it won’t be.

Is it confirmed that this will be the pricetag? Or is it still speculation?
