I’d say Megatron is more challenging but that’s due to the transformation needed to be performed in order. He’s more time consuming than anything. Prime is surprisingly intuitive. I was able to transform him without instructions.

This looks great. Thanks so much for doing that for me man. it's close enough.

Awesome! Thanks so much! Such an interesting pose when seen from a different angle. but knowing he can mostly pull it off is good enough for me. :D

Good point about TT and other Japanese companies seemingly skipping a final QC check.

I recently caught up with a friend who’s heavily into model kits and SOC, and when he fiddled with MP-44, he felt that the overall workmanship was very poor. Example, sprue marks on various parts of the figure (even on the chrome), inconsistent paint application etc.

He also noted the possibility that there was hardly (if any) any coating on the figure - resulting in paint chips.

Tbh i kinda regret picking up the first run. In my excitement, i went ahead and PO-ed the first run. I will need to see reviews on the reissue as I’m thinking of picking a second piece.

I transformed Megatron without instructions and just by going on a video. Optimus Prime took me more time, but I agree that he is more intuitive, and I have a feeling I’ll be able to transform him more fluently than I can with Megatron.

Optimus for me...personally I find Megatron rather tedious to transform.

Dr Wu should make some, I'd get a set when I pick up MP44, its the only accessory TakaraTomy missed out on.
If no one does it soon, I might try mock some battle damaged ones up for production.. could be fun to make some G1 MP style packaging for them to come with too.
    We shall see.

Prime's easier to transform for me, truck to bot being pretty smooth at this point though bot to truck is a little trickier in the end getting everything flush. It's been a while since I transformed Megatron but there were at least three or four spots that I found pretty difficult, but again, I'm not very practiced in his transformation. Transformation aside, though, they're both equally enjoyable for me to mess with. They both ooze personality and their hyper articulation and plethora of accessories and gimmicks make for endless posing possibilities. Prime's my favorite figure of all time with Megatron a very close second.

Daaamn! At least if they release a V2 with a knee fix before then, you would be able to exchange it.

This has become my approach too. A V2 and V3 is happening, it's Prime after all. TT is gonna milk this mold for all it is worth. I just don't trust them enough to thrown down that type of money for yet another 1st run QC ridden figure. I'm content to wait as I've tons of other transformers to occupy in the meantime. Plus, I'm also waiting for the inevitable T version.

For me it's the other way round. I find Megatron way more intuitive and very rewarding when you consider the end result...far more impressive. Have transformed him over 20 times, not exaggerating. When Megatron was released 2 years, if someone would have told me a matching Prime would be made and would be more complicated to transform than Megatron I would have laughed them off but yet here we are.

I even showed this figure to a friend today and he also couldn't quite get his head around how Prime is more complex than Megatron? TT really dropped the ball on MP-44 in terms of robot to alt-mode transformation. Once upon a time they reigned supreme in transformations but the chink in the armour first appeared in Sunstreaker. As with Prime his transformation is lacking in one thing which made TT peerless in this category....efficiency. With MP-44, into alt-mode...the juice simply ain't worth the squeeze.

People are taking up to an hour to transform him and lining up and tabbing just to produce a panel-y and kibbly trailer cab?? Seriously? Could anyone imagine if TT made a Grimlock and it was just as difficult to transform? You wouldn't because in your mind, you look at what the character transforms into, the iconic queues in the cartoon and then you realize it shouldn't be that complex and/or painstaking. I gotta be honest...it's a trainwreck of a transformation. I've done it five times now and I'm sorry it just is. I've never been drunk and totally smashed off my face but I have a feeling transforming this figure is like seeing those guys that are totally smashed off their faces that somehow, against all odds, manage to make it to their homes at the end of the night. I really don't find it intuitive at all but somehow get there.

I almost feel as if TT were hell bent on giving us the ultimate representation of Sunbow G1 Optimus Prime. Which they have, of course. Say what you may about this guy's transformation and price but he absolutely destroys the competition in terms of capturing the likeness of this character in robot mode. But I feel it was at a great cost literally and metaphorically. Don't know how to put it any other way but that transformation, from robot to alt is just hot shit, plain and simple.
