Maybe? It's three separate vehicles that combine to form the larger robot... if there was some sort of base mode it might work as an Overlord, but I'm not really seeing it as a Jhiaxus.

Or if you go by the anime story a teen boy and girl inside a giant robot shrink down inside a girl and find a universe inside her body and fight bad guys with robots! I wish I was making this up!

By the way the second dub was called space transformers and had optimus prime on the cover art! Yes this got two dubs!

I'm just looking at the over all shape of the bot mode. With the right paint apps, retooling of the forearms and head, Jhiaxus could be there. Certainly no further off than any other attempt.

That animation was done using the Diaclone designs, but it was done in Korea and had nothing to do with Takara. So it is not really an official take on the story.

Yeah, I am a sucker for chrome on the old toys, I think that and the cockpit being different are throwing me off.

I am happy to see an update of diaclone but takara is going to have to work hard to make something as inspired as Bandai's SOC line which updates older toys in a way that makes them new and feel vintage at the same time.

Was Dia Battles something totally separate from the Diaclone toys that became Transformers? Because it seems to have the Voltron/Power Rangers gimmick of separate vehicles forming one robot instead of each vehicle turning into it own robot as well.

No, Dia Battles was part of the same Diaclone toyline. The figures that would eventually carry over to Transformers started being introduced in 1982, and Dia Battles and a lot of the other sci-fi robot themed figures came before that.

If it helps, you could think of car robo, construction robo, etc as "sub-lines" of the main Diaclone toyline, and while many of the sub-lines were brought over for Transformers, not all of them were.

Also, on topic, I'm a little bit concerned that if I buy this figure I'll be going down another collector rabbit-hole. I decided I wanted to collect any Transformers Masterpiece figure that has a Diaclone paint scheme, which right now basically just means a lot of Nissans and Lamborghinis, but if I buy this guy (who I think would look pretty awesome with some MP Car Robo in front of him), then I'm going to get pulled in to any other Diaclone Reboot figures. Dia Attacker? Gats Blocker? BIG POWERED?

I don't know if I could handle that. I definitely think my Transformers collection wouldn't appreciate being sold off to fund that. But... I kind of want that anyways. Is that weird?
