It's TFC's S.T.Commander (aka Rolling Thunder Optimus Prime) that has been digibashed/photoshoped by Malcontentman to have the Moonbase Diabattles color scheme. I was wondering how it would look in those colors because it is also Dianaught compatitble (it also fits Titan Masters). I want to get that toy in particular, and I really can't decide if it would display with my Diaclone toys or my TF's.
That thing does look interesting but just doesn't scream Diaclone to me. It's too boxy and has chunky proportions. I think it would stand out rather blatantly against BP or Diabattles. Heck, G1 Prime just doesn't fit with this line and he was even an original Diaclone.
The modern diaclone aesthetic hasn't really been reproduced by anyone else yet. The good thing is that with the waruders having their own unique design language, it's not too out there there to use other products in a third opforce role: in my mind I'm kind of viewing intentionally or coincidentally compatible items as remnants of lost colonies established during a "golden age" between original diaclone and the reboot. So on one planet diaclone explorers may discover beastbox dinos guarding a dinosaur cloning facility (jurassic park), while another might drop into a war between humans equipped with tfc commanders vs terrorcons.. all while the impending waruder invasion closes in.
I can see that but I think the boxy look works if it's an armored version. Powered GV is pretty boxy. I'd just love to see something like this as a snap on armor kit. Would takara ever do that you think? I mentioned before how it makes me think of the Macross Valkyries. Adding the armor would reduce speed but greatly increase fire power and armor rating.
My exact feelings as well. Every time i glance at the DA-21 radar "head" it makes me slightly irritated (lol). The design isn't horrible but it reminds me of Lego building block product when that company produces humanoid robot figures which is off putting. Adding the radar dish and other kibble helped the design aesthetic enough that looking at it now doesn't elicit the same negative reaction. The orange DA-22 is a solid design . It's not the sexy aerodynamic look of former and future suits which i prefer but it's quite utilitarian and that's welcome in my Diaclone universe .
I think DA-21 & 22’s legs look more like the real world robot legs right now. Those could come out of Boston Scientific right now. Granted everything else especially BB and DB have regular legs. Random thought sorry.
I'm cool with the legs. It's the arms I had a harder time getting over. Not a huge fan of how the upper arms are fixed blocks, but at least they still have good range of motion.
Fixed blocks? the entire upper arm can easily rotate and hinge forward and back just like the old mini mechs arms could do.
Yeah, I was meaning that the upper arm doesn't have an outward motion and just a swing motion. The main outward motion comes from the ball joint between the elbow and the block. You can swing it out using the lateral hinge, but it just has an awkward appearance. Not complaining about the figures, just pointing out something I'd have preferred differently.
I share the consensus that the shoulders are odd, and blue's head really throws the proportions off. But there's a usable peg under it, so that's fun lol
Diaclone Earth Defence Force at Ledra Beach, Cyprus, 2018 A.D. Powered System Suit E recharge. All the best Maz
I can respect that - and to a degree I even agree. STCommander (the name of the toy) is still going to be crawling with Dianuaghts... even if I don't display it with my Diaclone toys
