Well, that was a silly plan. I think the fact that the line is made to a set scale of 1:60 and almost all images feature Dia-nauts, there's less chance of being misled IMO. All the best Maz
Officially a diaclone owner! Didn't have much time to mess with it but that comes tonight, more coming in the mail!
Just in case you weren't aware, you did indeed make the right decision. BBTS is now sold out of Vajra again.
Nah, they always appear larger in photos. Especially when you're not familiar with the line. There's so much detail on the figures it makes them feel larger. When I saw photos of Battle Buffalo, I thought it was going to be larger than it turned out to be. Almost turned me off of the line. I didn't understand the reason for the high cost for what I thought at the time was a tiny figure. Even now I get surprised when I get some in hand. Like DA-93 is way smaller in person than it appeared in photos. But I'm glad it didn't turn me away, and now we have Ground Dion coming soon and I'm so excited!
That happened with me and Big Powered. Paid over titan pricing for a relatively "leader class" sized Transformer (for the time). Even when my brain told me I bought a Masterpiece rather than a regular retail bot, it was still difficult to justify the purchase and I basically took a bow out of the series after that. Grand Dion has drawn me back in...but my expectations are a little more nuanced now. I still feel like things are a tad overpriced - I question that DiaGuardion should have set me back around $85. But he's a fun little toy. It's just that it doesn't seem all that long ago that I could buy Masterpiece Autobot Cars for the same price and have the same level of detail on a larger and equally intricate figure. As it is, I'm having to look at these now as more along the lines of competition with Soul of Chogokin (without the gokin). It kinda sucks but oh well.
I think there's a difference between stock photos which might usually have a totally white background and something set up in a studio with actual surrounding background items, debris, and scaled figures. The original poster was making this observation with reference to the photos I had posted, so as far as those are concerned, I tend to see it differently. Stock photos with plain backgrounds have occasionally been misleading, though, that I can agree with. All the best Maz
I originally percieved the Diaclone line to be larger than it is due to the overwhelming detail - detail that I had only previously encountered with Transformers Generations scaled figures. Generations have made detail sacrifices because of the downgrade in plastic grade (cost reduction.) Meanwhile, Takara seems to have redirected that into DR. Yes, they're smaller than they appear in promo images due to angles, macro lens distortion, and overall detail density, but even from my beginnings as an outside observer, the dimensions/measurements were front and center. Grand Dion is very clearly marked as 45cm long. 1.5 standard 30cm rulers make it very clear what the size of the product is.
The Qty select went up to 9 after @Thereal9thdoctor placed his order. So a few people probably had it removed from their POL.
No, the effect also occurs with pictures people have taken themselves that show Dianauts. It is caused because newcomers such as myself have a bad perception of how small the toys really are . The level of detail is such that they seem larger than they are (some other toylines also have this problem*). I was surprised to see how small a Dianaut was, despite having read they were 3 cm tall. Even after looking at various pictures after I got my first Diaclone reboot toys and so I had Dianauts in hand, I still expected the Versaulters to be a tiny bit larger and therefore was slightly shocked when I opened the box. It doesn't help that the size in inches or cm isn't mentioned very often in this thread. You have much experience with these toys and thus are able to judge the sizes better when looking at pictures. Seeing some comparison pictures with other 1/60 scale toylines actually made me decide to avoid buying certain non-Diaclone figures, because they looked very simple and bland next to a Diaclone reboot toy. * I think the only toyline that I own that comes close to the effect Diaclone reboot toys cause in pictures are Bandai's Ultraman Gaia XIG vehicles released back in the late 1990s. Those have a very high level of detail (and much diecast ), are fully transformable, but also really tiny. Their aesthetics are quite similar to Diaclone reboot, actually...I should take a picture showing some of them next to some DR toys.
Yeah, I sometimes think about supplementing my collection by trying to integrate other 1/60 toys. But in most cases, the toys are either too iconic (Star Wars Micro Galaxy) or not detailed enough (Buzz Lightyear) to mix adequately and actually look good. Honestly, Diaclone looks best just with itself (and its knockoffs). I'm not certain American companies would be willing to invest in a nice 1/60 scale toy when a deluxe-sized high-quality Transformer would have to cost $50+ in order to make it work. Basically, you'd have to take something like Legacy Tarn, add cockpits and points for other Transformers integration and then include a Dianaut or two at the price of a leader. It could be done but I'm unsure Hasbro or anyone else would take that risk at retail.
"I want to walk across the ocean and go to Honloowu, Brian." Noprize for anyone who gets the reference. And AT ST?
If you could do Cog, that would be great! I was wanting a size comparison, and Sideswipe was the first figure that came to mind. I’m still kind of new to this, so thanks for asking!
Oohh, that's a nice big set to start out with! Lots of things going on there... should keep you busy for a while, and let you know if you're gonna develop the itch to get more I think DA-93 is a really fun little set Looking forward to DA-97, giving him wings!
While its pricier than I'd have liked, I do really like it. I really wanted it for the cosmo roller, but Diaguardian himself is way cooler than I expected. I am torn on the upgrade kit, as while he DOES look way better with it, I kinda like him as is, at least for my team. Btw, anybody know if there is a combined vehicle mode without the upgrade kit?
I asked the same thing I figure there are a few peg holes around the main unit, and on the little fighters... you could probably get a 2'way (male-male) peg thing (from another set) and join them together, but haven't actually tried it out yet.
I have a few ideas, but all the connectors are in use on my other guys(mostly Dia Calibur, and alot of em are glued together for the handle of the Majin Slasher sword I made for him).
