Not that it will help your situation, but one of the things I've been doing with the base exterior is adding sockets to the hillside and ground that my stand arms can plug into, allowing me tonmove arms around as needed, or remove em altogether. I made them pretty tight, so they can support a Soldier. Though unlike your stand, mine have screws in each joint to tighten them.

I only have the red dasher, the black jetter and the red wing thing. The dasher and the wing thing look cool together but so far the jetter only works with the gamma versaulter. I wouldn't recommend any trisomething figure unless you're REALLY into a specific color scheme. If that's the case, get all the ones with the color scheme you like. They're fun.

The slider on mine isn't too bad. Friction isn't an issue the way it was with say, the cockpit mechanism on my Battle Buffalo. That said, I might do some light sanding on the posts of the grey pillar where the arm modules peg in, so I don't have to use quite so much force getting them apart. I do dig this guy though. Looking forward to his add-on kit as well..
