Ok, I checked the threads and I can't find a Takara Tomy Galvatron thread so I thought I take a couple of (crappy) pictures of AOE's big bad. I have Hound too but I'm too busy to open him up...

Objective of this thread is to show how the toy looks and is not meant to provide a review.

I'm not sure how much it would cost to import him for US fans but for a fan based in Singapore the difference is around USD$6...so its a no brainer for me to pick up the Takara Tomy version.

Hope you guys like it and my apologies for the poor shots as there were taken with my hp i.e. my camera is down.

Hmmmm... starting to regret my preorder. I did a similar paint job on my Hasbro version for less than importing to USA.

Love it. Didn't want Galvatron at first, but changed my mind after the movie.
Not sure if the two improvements, face and chest, warrant the higher price but I like it!

IMO it all depends on the price differences guys. For me it was like USD$6? So I don't mind paying the additional amount besides I suck at painting! LOL!

Looked at him in box at TRU yesterday, but couldnt convince myself to spend the money. 4000 yen is a bit much for that guy imo, same with hound, though ill prob pick him up eventually.

Its funny how willing I am to buy a 3rd party figure for two or three times the price, but have the hardest time convincing myself to pick hastak stuff up

Amazing how much of a difference just a few small paint apps can make, especially on the face. Will be picking this up for sure.

the backpack cab kibble is my biggest regret on buying galvatron..makes it damn near impossible to pose decently.

They should've nixed the bronze plastic and darkened the grey because there's not enough deco changes to warrant the extra amount of money.

100%. I have to import the US or Takara versions anyway, due to the ridiculous distribution policies in place in Europe, and I have no problem paying a bit extra for a figure that doesn't look like it's been removed from the manufacturing line before it was finished - which a lot of the US versions look like.

Even comparisons with Tak vs Hasbro Evasion Prime is laughable, why the hell do they think it's okay to release figures missing paint apps all over the place?!

Oh, so you're based in Japan? I'm curious is Lockdown easy to find over there?

Yeah, I must admit that I'm impressed too. When I initially saw the Hasbro version, I was impressed by the amount of details but it was too bland IMO.

Yeah, I concur. I also wished that the back kibble was easily removable. I think its possible to remove but I neither have the expertise nor the relevant tools.

I'm in a similar situation with you - TFs are kinda pricey over here. So I have to be more selective. As mentioned earlier, the price difference was 'marginal' to me so I ended up with the Takara Tomy version.

I know the paint additions are subtle but they do make a big, big difference, especially on the face. I'm really hoping there will be some sort of platinum editions for Galvatron and Lockdown as the ones we've seen so far have for the most part proven to be even more accurate and detailed than the Takara versions.

I think I'm just gonna get two Hasbro versions and paint one of them.

The additional paint apps can easily be done on the Hasbro version and a few sharpies....that's what I did and it looks identical, if not better.

I like how his face is painted but I'm not sure if I'll get him since aside from the face he doesn't look any different from the Hasbro version.

True, true, but that should not be the point. If a collector chooses to touch up paint here and there to give a bit of extra detailing, fair enough.

It shouldn't be the case that it's becoming a requirement that each Hasbro figure needs basic finishing.

If the US sales are underperforming as claimed, one of the (many) reasons is that the toys themselves look crap, and lack basic detailing.

Would parents actually look at that grey unpainted Hasbro Galvatron and think 'sure, that's a great present!'?

The additional paint apps definitely help the figure a lot, especially the face, but not enough to warrant the import cost to me. I got the Hasbo Galvatron for super cheap so I'm happy keeping that version.

And also, if you're totally cack-handed and lack any deftness like me then you potentially end up ruining a figure not improving it.
