Y'know... it just occurred to me that the rights to the Dorvack anime mecha designs must be... flexible... if these three molds are all being released as one wave in Japan. Not a coincidence I'm sure... somebody at Takara is having a nostalgia moment. zmog
He didn't have a Vehicon symbol there in the show; it was on his shoulder armor. Which due to the mold's sculpt is sorta tricky to pull off/wouldn't look great in altmode necessarily
Might spring for Whirl and Roadbuster if those are paint apps rather than decals. Tankor looks nice too. Ha, that's kinda funny. It not being on the chest is actually cartoon-accurate; his right shoulder pad thing is obscured so I can't tell if it's there or not.
They look great! Well, to me at least, and I was curious to see if Takara would try something other than the stickers for Whirl and Roadbuster. Hopefully saying that I'm glad I waited - particularly with Whirl being available for some time - doesn't sound boastful, since there's certainly yet more waiting for these guys. Other than the stickers are there many notable differences with Roadbuster? I'm not sure if the heads in his missile pod were painted on the Hasbro version. Even if not, the differences are pretty minor, but I will await a closer look, in no small part due to preferring tampographed logos. I might even hazard to say that he looks not as lanky in Takara's photography.
The only deco changes to Whirl seem to be the cockpit is lined and the feets is blue. I can't tell what changes to Roadbuster there are, since I'm not familiar with Hasbro's Roadbuster. EDIT: Actually, Takara Roadbuster has less paint/deco, as his thighs are now entirely orange instead fo orange and green. Otherwise he's identical.
Pha! Ok, checked some screen grabs real quick an seen Tankors symbol ISNT on his chest like I had thought. TFW guys know there shit. Just dumped my Hasbro version out of my POL. Looks like I'll wait a while for him an Roadbuster now.
Takara is still holding out on releasing a version of Skids? Seems like he would go well with Tankor, even if they are mixing deluxe and voyagers into the same wave. +-MWG-+
Whirl is the only one who really seems to be different from the Hasbro version, aside from the shiny paint on Tankor, so none of these really seem like they'd be worth a purchase
They look nice, but I'd be hard-pressed to say they actually look particularly better, aside from painting the frame on Whirl's canopy. Certainly not worth paying extra costs to me at least. The metallic bits on Tankor's upper arms and thighs is a bit much, not to mention pretty inaccurate. Are those parts chromed?
Hasbro Whirl is fantastic and so is the Takara version. Can't wait to have both. I'd take an IDW inspired Maketoys Whirl too.
