In another thread, someone wished there was a poll to see which gets bought more often, Masterpieces from Takara or Hasbro, so here it is. I also put a "both" option since there are people (like myself) that have both of some figures. Which do you particularly tend to buy and why?
Though I prefer the quality of the Takara releases, I voted Hasbro becasue the two MP's I own, Starscream and Skywarp, are the US ones.
My MP-04 Prime and Megatron are from Takara, while my Starscream, Skywarp, and Grimlock are Hasbro. Currently I have more Hasbro masterpieces, but I also have Rodimus pre-ordered which makes it even. I voted Hasbro, but it really depends.
only hasbro for me, availabilty and price are the determining factor....and ive only got skywarp (x2) and mp grimlock............i got in on the mp line a little lat
I have 3 MP figures from Hasbro (20th Prime, WM Starscream, TRU Grimlock) and 2 from Takara (Skywarp, Megatron) in my collection right now, so in terms of what I currently own, Hasbro takes the victory. In the future, however, I intend to only get the Hasbro releases of the MP molds, starting with Rodimus (assuming that comes out in the US). As good as most of them have been, I'd rather just wait for the US releases, since they're cheaper and the figures are either the same or better anyway. The wait sucks, but I'm learning to be more patient, in the interest of saving money. The only exception would be if Takara releases something else like Megatron that Hasbro absolutely can't release in the States.
Hasbro since they're cheaper I only have 1 Takara Masterpiece and that's Megatron. I wasn't sure if Hasbro was going to release him because of the child safety laws.
If there ever was a Transformer where I wanted both, Rodimus would be the one. Takara out of package, Hasbro in package.
Takara's are undoubtedly more collectible, but I find that I enjoy the g1 accuracy of the Hasbro toys, so I generally go for those.
I voted Both. Not because I have everythng, but I have an equal amount Takara: Megatron,Skywarp, Thundercracker, Grimlock Hasbro: Optimus (20th Anniversary), Starscream, Skywarp, Grimlock
Except for Optimus Prime, all the ones I have (Grimlock, Megatron, Starscream, Skywarp, Thundercracker) are Takara. Although the Starscream is the Takara version of the U.S. release. I used to own the Hasbro release, but it broke and the cheapest one I could find to replace it was the Takara one. In Starscream's case, I prefer the Hasbro paint job to the greenish-grey MP-03. I really, really prefer Takara's boxes though.
I buy both but usually always prefer Takara's over Hasbro's. The one exception might be Skywarp as I like both a lot. I have MP-1 MP-1B MP-2 MP-3 MP-3G USA Edition Starscream MP-4 MP-4S MP-5 MP-6 MP-7 MP-8 MP-8X 20th Optimus 20th DVD Optimus Walmart Starscream Walmart Skywarp TRU Grimlock Randy
Hasbro, doesn't kidney punch my wallet for some extra chrome or something. Well, Grimlock and Hot Rod are missing accessories, but that's not the point.
i said both because i got the mp 1 prime from hasbro and i an going to buy the takara rodimus because i want the trailer.
I don't own a Takara MP. I buy the Hasbro ones mainly cause of $$$$ Takara MPs do look alot better(except for SS) but they're too rich for my blood. Hasbro MPs is like champagne at beer price.
I voted Takara. I'm lucky enough to live 15 minutes away from an import TF shop near Vancouver, so i can just drive over and buy my masterpieces instead of hunting for the US versions at Wal Mart or wherever. I prefer the Takara presentation (box, instructions) as well as the extra goodies like aprons and bow ties, and the extra paint apps for me add an extra bit of class and quality. Saving money on shipping fees helps out a lot too. I now have MP 1, 1B, 2, 5, 6, 7 and 8. Jay's Clock is the name of the store and it's a great TF resource. I'm not trying to advertise for them or anything, i just think it's awesome.
Forgot to mention this in my initial post. Usually packaging means nothing to me but those Japanese MP boxes are GORGEOUS.
