    THIS.

Honestly, how many people were expecting MP Starsaber to be released as early as next March? And this guy is likely coming out earlier?! He's a bonus MP that will delight a small subsection of fans. And for the rest of us? Why get all twisted over a figure we didn't even know existed 24 hours ago?

Also...An evil racecar that encourages folks to smoke? Way to play the long game Deceptions! :lol

My only disappointment is that I don't have money budgeted for him :(
Any idea on when this will be released?

An awesome deco as a non ehobby or convention exclusive, meaning it will retail for $45 from Japan shops? Can I pay right now?

And the disenchanted in this thread need to get over it. We're getting a masterpiece of an extremely rare diaclone figure for normal retail. What more could you ask for?

I'm the complete opposite of you then. I don't need "Diaclone Wheeljack" in my life. I want a new character. I hope we also get a new character out of police Sunstreaker and red Sunstreaker should the mold ever happen. It didn't start in classics, it started with the reissues way back when with Clampdown, Deepcover, Tigertrack, Roadrage, and Crosscut...

    :D
G2 Sideswipe wasn't a new character. Tigertrack didn't have remolded parts. So they got a letter... This has both like Streak, Smokescreen, and Red Alert, so a new number.

Hahahaha....are people really getting upset because he has his own number? For real? That's a thing? And because he's not an exclusive? Again, for real? So because you don't know the lineage, or just don't care for the figure, it should be harder for everyone else to get.

Or that somehow, because he's MP-23 he's taking the spot from a "real" MP?

So what if MP-23 was Blue Bluestreak instead? Then everyone would be gushing and throwing money at the screen. Sure he appeared on the original box art/catalog, but he was still never released as a "real" Transformer, just one of the Diaclone recolors, just like Marlboro.

For that matter, why does Tigertrack (or Black Rodimus, or Black MP-10, or US Acid Storm, or [insert any repaint not originally released in 84-85])get a pass then? He was just as "made up" of a character as Exhaust here. It is because he was shoehorned into "G1" because of the reissue years ago? How's that different? Or is it because he doesn't have a "unique number" (snicker) and that somehow means he didn't "take up a spot" and ruin someone's numbering order. (Does that mean TT uses a totally different development team and factory for the exclusives/recolors/etc so as not to take away from the "real MPs"? haha.) Seriously, I didn't care for Tigertrack, so I just didn't buy him, but I still thought it was cool they release a Diaclone repaint in the MP line. Had it been Deep Cover (who is also just as "made up" as Exhaust here) I woulda jumped all over it.

Well, I was gonna type a lot more, but then saw the two post below, which say it a lot more intelligently and eloquently than me:

Masterpiece releases could be numbered in binary, or Roman numerals, or Hiragana, or even use tally marks and I really couldn't care less.

    Call it MP-20.1M_release02(D)

I don't care. Really. The fact that he isn't a show exclusive is mildly interesting. The fact that he's being released at all is really exciting.

The thing I'm really not digging is how it seems like they are trying to retcon exhaust as a character by giving him his own designation. The numbering doesn't bother me, but what he represents opens the door for more repaints and more funky characters that have nothing to do with G1 besides a diaclone or simply just unique alt mode repaint.

I even think he looks pretty cool, especially in alt mode, to the point where I'm considering getting him. But I'm not a fan of the scenario where we end up with a entire additional cast of retconned G1 "new" characters with different head sculpts and paint jobs. Thats a cash grab and not really something I need to have in a G1 animation MP collection.

So imo, a cool figure but opens a world of possible additional expenses if you decide to support that route. I personally want more G1 animation guys, not new retconned characters, but I also realize we may have to support these repaint retconned guys if we want more G1 animation characters.

    Tough call.

Not that hes taking up a slot, but he is pushing another tf further back to the already long waiting process. Theres different ppl with their views on what they want, if enough ppl sound off on what they want, companies start to listen. Its been happening already. If it doesnt happen, it doesnt happen but im damn sure gonna sound off hoping it will. Alot of you want all theses repaints, i dont and im sure there are alot more ppl who share my view, so im just one who feels how he feels, has the right to speak my mind and i dont care what you think of my "negative comments" its how i feel

Repaints are nothing new in the Transformers world especially when it comes to new charcaters, Starscream+2, Prowl+2, Ironhide+1, Sideswipe+2,... WHen it comes to Wheeljack there is no other character for him represent so he falls into the Optimus Prime category of having no brother robot. MP-10 has gone off te deep end with it's repaints but MP-23 is a fair alternative to an otherwise brotherless character. I think it's a smart choice given the options available were slim to none.

The only way the Diaclone repaints are going to be released is if they get character names and some kind of bio. If they just released them as character repaints (Nucleon version, Nemesis version, Shattered Glass version, etc.) then everyone would be whining about that. If they just slapped a number on the box with no name and bio, everyone would lose their shit and wonder just what the hell is going on with the MP line. When Tigertrack and G2 SS were released, no one said "Thank God it's MP-12T/12G and not MP-whatever##, that would have just killed the line."

Who cares if they weren't in old fiction. They're doing whatever they have to do in order to get Diaclone repaints out there, and that's a good thing. It isn't opening the door to Micromaster and Action Master Masterpiece releases. It isn't acting like TFCC and trying to turn molds into characters that are a huge stretch of a repaint.

We just got through reading some interviews with the designers, and everyone was feeling good about how the line is in the hands of people who have the proper reverence for the almighty precious G1 combined with some business acumen to actually get these things done, and now a month later everyone is back to the hand-wringing doom and gloom.

It's not a cash grab. As someone who works for a toy company, most companies don't even make back their mold costs until a second or third repaint. If you don't like it, you don't have to buy it. But with Wheeljack, as a character that has zero repaint options, Takara needs to ensure the MP line is profitable, and isn't selling toys at a loss. It's a unique situation that's already making people cry "The end of the MP line is nigh!" It's a one off, plain a simple, because they a) dont want to make toys that lose money, and b) has no other options so they chose the best they could.

But you can call it a cash grab if that you really have to.

I wonder if people in Japan, on the Japanese language Transformers forums, are as negative about MP-23 as the people on this board are.

You know what, Takara are not making MP-23 (or MP-24 Star Saber, for that matter) to cater the US or EU market. They are making them for the Japanese market. And you know what else? Takara rightfully doesn't care ONE SINGLE BIT if people on this non-Japanese forum don't like the repaint, or the heritage, or 'the fact that he's taking up a slot', or the fact that he might be pushing another release forward, or the fact that he wasn't in the cartoon, or the damn number on the box. Takara cares about their Japanese customers: the only people Takara makes these toys for.

Haters gonna hate. Still, I'm sure me and plenty of other guys are going to enjoy the hell out of Exhaust (and Star Saber, and other repaints of G1 characters to follow), while all you guys are still moping and waiting for the next 'proper' G1 Masterpiece*. I'm just glad the first repaint of this mold wasn't the usual true cash-grab black repaint.

*unless of course it has a butt-flap.

Or, the other train of thought, it opens up a whole new possibility of Takara releasing Diaclone repaints for fans, like me, that crave them.

I DO hope it opens the door for more repaints, you know more options, should I choose to embrace them, or skip them. The good news is that they'll be just that: repaints and remolds. It's not like Takara will would give us Road Rage before giving us a proper MP Tracks...but this means that after (the hypothetical) Tracks, there's a very good chance we would get Road Rage. So you'll still get your G1 Animation characters (which to be honest, is really the driving force behind my MP Collection as well), but now you could have additional, Diaclone inspired optional characters to add to your collection...should you choose to.

Again, if you don't like it, why not just don't buy them? You don't have to "support" the decisions you don't like. Do you think the MP line is going to falter because a few thousand fans didn't buy the repaint? I don't buy the black repaints..never bought G2 Swipe, Soundblaster, or Sunstorm either, but the line still seems to be going stronger than ever.
