Whoa. Surprisingly little shiny.

I may have to get this one, especially if I don't hear anything about a Hasbro release soon.


checking, the difference between this and the previous test shots (of presumably the Hasbro version) are:

A more neutral gray (Hasbro was slightly brown/beige)
regular purple 'con symbols (duh)
Solid red eyes versus beady dots on Hasbro
Metallic paint on copter engines/wings, with stripes/symbols on engines. (gold stripes/symbols on Hasbro)

Actually, this is more the kind of Takara/Hasbro toy difference I was hoping for, as opposed to the "more shiny!" for most Animated toys.

Same here. Animated is sadly the only line that i actually have a "real" collection of. But i love them all!

here is the hasbro version differences. all that is different is the eyes, the purple insignia on chest and panels, the eyes (which are not show accurate on takara) and the takara does look a little more grey and the red looks a shade different:

I agree, that wierd-ass Grimlock is really no prize.

I hope Blackout isn't a Tak/Tom exclusive.

 

You'll also notice that between these Hasbro prototypes and Takara's final product, the Hasbro figures have a very glossy surface finish to the molded parts and their overall molded details seem a bit poorly produced, with areas and parts not fitting completely flush.

While on the opposite end, the Takara figure has trademark "flat" mold surface texture/treatment that all Animated toys sport and it's molded details seem much sharper/more refined, and all the parts fit completely flush.

I remember hearing that part of the reason as to why the later Animated toys were delayed was due to problems with the molds. It seems that with the Takara figure, they finally have addressed this issue.

 

I don't think it's Takara. doesnt match the rest of the line.

Seems like an updated Hasbro deco to me.

 

Hasbro, Takara... whoever brings this out first gets my money! I'm actually happy to see this guy isn't saturated in shiny paint. He could work for either collection.

the purple Decepticon symbol would seem to be a strong indicator that this is Takara/Tomy

 

I actually like this better than Hasbro's so if it doesn't see the light of day I'll get the Tak version
