Anyone catch the first episode on Tuesday? I'm loving it so far. They did an excellent job re-creating the time period (1814), and Tom Hardy's character is pretty badass.

Thanks for making this thread -- I was going to do the same.

Yeah, I was really intrigued by the promos for this, and thought the first episode was great. Definitely a bit of a slow burn, but I'm really interested in seeing where this goes.

They definitely spent a lot of money on this show, so I hope it does well for them.

Yeah, they seem to be setting up a lot of mystery already. Hopefully, it all gets answered. I want to know what all of these "rumors" are about him.

Saw it on Saturday when it aired here, definitely on board for this one.

If folks haven't already, go check out Peaky Blinders from the same writer as well. Awesome 1920s northern gangster series with Cillian Murphy, Sam Neil and sometimes Tom Hardy.

I want to see it and PVR'd the first episode, but I think I'm going to wait until it's done before I watch it. Even great shows usually start out pretty slow, and it's hard to keep paying attention to them with a week delay vs. watching a couple of episodes back to back right out of the gate. That's what I did with everything from Breaking Bad to Deadwood to Better Call Saul to Mad Men, etc., so that's what I'll be doing here... and with that other new The Young Pope or whatever it's called series with Jude Law on HBO.

I meant to watch it because it's from the same guy behind Peaky Blinders and Tom Hardy is in this too. Unfortunately, my brother was watching Netflix in my room, and I missed the premiere.

Since FX has made it impossible to record rebroadcasts of the show due to the station screwing up the tv scheduling of the episodes I'll just wait for the 1st 4 to air before going to VOD to watch.

I've made it thru 3 eps and fell asleep each and every one of them... there's moments.. but overall I've found it to be a 'snoozer'. Pretty sure I'm done.:D

That's all the discussion this series has? That's not much... honestly I started watching but I am still not sure what theme this has... whether any mysticism is just implied or real. I do love that Jonathan Pryce is in it, ironically playing an East India Trading Company chairman - the same organization that had him killed in the Pirates movies.

FWIW, I watched the whole thing and enjoyed it, I just didn’t see anyone else really talking about it here, so I didn’t bother checking on this thread again...

When is the 2nd season/series coming?

I really dug the music in this series too.

As of last November, the show’s creator was still writing season 2, so it’s going to be a while still.

Yeah Tom Hardy almost bankrupted himself with it. I guess he and his father sort of did this as a labor of love. I think it’s sort of garnering interest as time moves on but initially it wasn’t very successful. I think a big part of how much you like this show is how much of a Tom Hardy fan you are.

I liked it, but it just came and went without even generating much buzz in the UK.

I think the show was a bit of a hard sell over here to be honest, It's a BBC costume drama for people that don't like BBC costume dramas that was scheduled and advertised as a BBC costume drama. Pleasantly surprised to see it coming back though, can only assume that it did well enough internationally to cover the money it lost here and in America.

I still need to get around to this. I’m a big Tom Hardy fan, and it’s from the same creative team as Peaky Blinders (one of my favorite shows right now in general)

Peaky Blinders is awesome, Alfie Solomons’ welterweight dialogue about “Goliath” in season 4 is another amazing Tom scene.

I just want a show in which he engages in normal conversation as Bane. With the voice.
