Thank you! I can't wait to paint it!
I don't know the first thing about buying stuff online, but my dad informs me that UPS (the only company Shapeways will ship stuff with) charges some minimum 25$ fee to the buyer. Does that apply to Shapeways stuff as well, or do the two companies have some kind of agreement?
(This question is one he has asked me to ask. I don't have the first clue as to what's going on.)
There have been reports that UPS sometimes charges some sort of customs fee depending where you're at. I think Canada is one of the places UPS doesn't fancy very much. Check the FAQ on Shapeways site.
I live in the US (on the west coast) and I order from shapeways all the time. The location my orders ship from is in New York. My last order was $116 & my shipping charge was $6.50. As far as other locations for shapeways worldwide, I have no idea.
Mine comes from NY too, but because it goes to Canada any order over $30 gets hit with $20 in brokerage fee by UPS. Shapeway needs to ship by regular post.
I'm in canada and when my order was over $30 I got hit with a brokerage fee of $20. Shapeway must have a deal with UPS and in exchange us here in canada suffer. Lulu.com ( a printing website) had the same thing, until the opened a facility here in canada.
I hope shapeway does too.
I haven't ordered my Star Saber yet, but it's on my list!
Any thoughts on doing Megatron's Dark Star Saber?
I have though about it, but it is very organic and might be a little more difficult for me to render in sketchup. I have though though about other relics, like the Phase shifter.
Then I'll have it shipped to the states. Thank you for your help, Dogimus Prime and Citoria.
I would be great if you could upload pics with different material options . I still consider to get one or two but i need to see the pics first . Thanks for your hard work man !
It has been testing In WSF and UFD. There is a small photo of FUD, but it looks identical to WSF (except transparent) and has the crispest detail.
All other materials have not been tested. (And I wont be testing them myself)
Got my star saber yesterday and got it painted, will probably post pics after I get home from class
ok, here it is, my custom painted rid prime with the star saber, still needs a few touch ups where i missed some paint on the hilt, and i left the blue on the blade kind of uneven so it looks like energy is pulsing through the blade, not perfect but since this is only like the 3rd thing ive painted id say it turned out pretty good.
Wow That looks great! I just ordered a second sword to paint blue myself!
thanks, now i just need a dark saber for megatron
Fakebuster's got you covered!
Yea I saw that earlier, now someone just news to make a model for a dead prime arm cover for megs, like the one corbot v showed of a couple months ago haha, shapeways is awesome
I got mine last week and painted it in power up colors, one word: AWESOME!
What material is best to use? I don't particularly like how grainy some of the plastic looks. What would be recommended for a smoother surface?
Hot dog that looks great! Do you have any more photos?
FUD (fine ultra detail) is much much smoother and less porous than the WSF material.
