It's upsetting that a child has died due to the virus, but this is the first and only confirmed death outside Mexico, and noone seems sure exactly what the official death toll in Mecixo actually is.

While it's terrible that people have indeed died from the virus, I think the media are making a larger issue of it than need be; the virus is definitely susceptible to at least 2 drugs and the people being treated in the UK are said to be responding well. Once the various world governments know exactly how to handle the virus it'll probably be contained relatively quickly.

Just ignore him, everyone else does. :p

Also, how many people in the U.S. have died today from the regular flu? I guarantee it is more than one!

I remember seeing some numbers of like an average of 30,000 per year.

36000 a year, approximately 1000 per week during flu season. H1N1 severity is completely overblown at this time.

It drives Media ratings, so it will get the air-play. Amazing how many people I have heard swearing off pork. Idiots.

And those numbers you quoted, not a lot considering the size of the population, but it should be noted that a good bit of those include pre-existing conditions (such as heart/lung problems, cancer, HIV, old, etc.).

The situation in Mexico has been blown out of proportion, all schools of all levels have been closed for a week, all restaurants, clubs and theaters even all sport events have been closed too, mass gatherings have been banned too. The city is almost empty, I went downtown yesterday and there are very few people on the streets, it's very strange to see the city like this, empty. Most people on the streets wear surgical masks, and there's been a strong media campaign to wash hands every time we can, we have even been recommnded to stop greeting people with a hug or a kiss.

I find this way out of proportion, since las I heard, the death toll was 23. I try to go on with a normal life, but it's hard ince almost anything is closed, all we can do now is hang out in someone's house, I fear most is the impact this will have on the economy.

I am currently sat in my once quiet home, listening to music, fiddling with toys and watching movies on the laptop. It's quite nice.

My mother has taped the windows shut and bought us all masks.

I gave up reasoning with her a long, long time ago.

The best "swearing off pork" news today is that Egypt is slaughtering all 300,000 pigs in the country. You know, even though no one in the world has been able to find a pig INFECTED with H1N1.

Nice to know that stupidity lies in other governments as well. Was that a call by the Egyptian FDA? Hmmm...one of the very first things I heard about the flu was that you cannot get it from eating pork. But people are idiots.

Seriously, you know what the vaccination for swine flu is, right?

We're in phase 5 people. This is going to spread all over the world now and make 2-3 people in each country sick for a few days!

A baby died of the swine flu.

    Babies have weak immune systems.

Who exactly is in charge of the World Health Organization?
