Netflix Orders ‘Sweet Tooth’ From Team Downey, Warner Bros. TV – Variety
SWEET TOOTH: Check Out The Charming First Trailer For Netflix's DC Comics Adaptation
Way wrong Sweet Tooth than the one I was thinking of
Is Downey Jr just gonna be involved in stinkers without being in the MCU?
Anything would be better with a flame-headed killer clown with a weaponized ice cream truck.
What the everloving fuck am I looking at.
I was thinking about Twisted Metal not... not that.
Believe it or not it's based on a DC comic
Robert how could you, I thought you were on team Marvel..!
I checked the comic. Well it ain't Kamandi, sadly. The whole "people want you dead because you are different" line made me cringe.
Also, an interview with the writer: "Sweet Tooth is taken down and rebuilt every issue—sometimes every page. And as far down the road as I can see, who knows where Gus’ journey ends. Not even Jeff knows yet, although it's in his head somewhere."
So it was like Lost, he had no idea where he was going with this story at all, and just made it up as he went? Great. That does not bode well for the TV show, since even with the original comic having ended, it basically just ends without a resolution.
Well, Vertigo, to be exact.
Also, given if they follow the comic's canon
he will be playing a mad scientist who caused a virus that almost killed humanity.
ComicbookMovie has a very different definition of "charming" than me. That terrible CGI deer baby...
Anyone else watch? I'm three eps in. Really good so far.
Just finished. I like it so far. Hope we can get season 2 soon. Basic story is as a virus starts wiping out humanity, babies are born as part human part animal. Now 10 years later lots of humans are wiped out and the hybrids are hunted.
Some of the hybrid kids look creepy. The main two we see are cute enough with the animal parts. They are 95%+ human. Gus is a normal looking boy with antlers and deer ears. Wendi is mostly normal looking with a pig nose and slightly pig ears. There is one that is 95% gopher but walks on hind legs. It is kinda creepy. Others are about 65-70% human. One you see for a few seconds has chameleon lizard eyes and scales on upper face. Some get really into the uncanny valley. But the creepiest ones are only briefly shown.
We get three story lines with some flashbacks. We get Gus (nick named Sweet Tooth), deer boy, who is now alone who leaves his secluded home to follow "Big Man" (former pro football player) wanting him to take him to Colorado to search for his mom. They are joined by "Bear" (Becky) a teen girl who ran a teen hybrid liberation army. There is Dr. Eden who was a therapist who converts a zoo to become a secluded sanctuary for hybrids. She becomes mother to Wendi a pig girl. There is also Dr. Singh who is a doctor trying to find a cure and who's wife is sick.
overall it is really good.
That baby is not Gus. Not the deer baby. That is more of a dog hybrid. Only appears in the start of the first episode.
Not a huge Lemire fan, to be honest, but I'm glad to see him have this success. Hopefully, since the comic series began at Vertigo, it means Lemire actually sees some money from having his work adapted, rather than it all going to WB.
Better hope that they change things. It begins to fall apart in the middle as the author obviously had no idea how to end it.
On the 7th ep.
But the end of the 8th ep, where does it roughly match up with the comics?
On the wikipedia, the author actually admits he only planned this for 12 issues and has no idea where he is going with this.
I enjoyed the first season. Went by very quickly. I'm not familiar with the source material other than some stuff I read on Wikipedia but it seems to me the changes made improved things.
My only whine is that it seems really unlikely to me that if all kids were now hybrids (which was my understanding) that people would just allow them all to be hunted like vermin. I could maybe see it if just some kids were hybrid and the rest were normal but if hybrid is all there was I think people would eventually deal with it. Especially since at least some of them were very human looking.
Spoiler: Season 2 speculation
I'm guessing Gus stays captive for all of season 2, given how the comics seemed to flow.
My wife and I really enjoyed the series. It got picked up for season 2 so that is good news. Ended on quite the cliffhanger(s)...
With the General was anyone else thinking Dr Robotnik meets Santa? Those goggles!
