My wife has a friend at work who mentioned a while ago that she might have some old TFs to get rid of. After a long wait, my wife brought home only one, but it's amazing. A loose, complete G 1 Prowl, in nearly perfect shape. The windshield is cracked at the base, floppy but still attached. I can't be sure he's not a reissue, but she also gave me his box, in bad shape, but it looks like original G1 to me.

Here's the amazing part: his stickers are unapplied, and his 3 missiles are still on the tree!! I'm floored! I didn't have Prowl, either!

I think I'll leave sticker sheet alone and get some Reprolabels, along with some loose

missiles. I'm just amazed that this fell into my lap the way it did. Yay clean living! :D

You can check if it's a reissue by turning him over and looking at the copyright stamping under his feet. If there are "Takara" and "Japan" in a circle or with some dates and Japanese lettering, even with "Hasbro", then it's vintage.

Reissues tend to have been manufactured in China.

I'm guessing because of the way it came to you, and the broken windshield, it;s not likely to be one of the more recent counterfeits which emulate the original Japanese stampings.

    All the best

Sweet, thanks guys. Japanese writing, "Takara Co. Ltd. Japan 1980, 1982". Chrome gun and missiles. No rubsign. I'll get some pics up later.

Nice play mrs. hoptimus! Should see if you can fix that windshield, too. Maybe scavenge it from a junker?? If you can find one, or fix it with some supah glue.

Very nice find! Reminds me of when I found a MISB Smokescreen and Ironhide at an old mom and pop store in the mid 90's.

It sounds like if you carefully applied some super glue you could fix the windshield before it breaks off.

Sounds legit to me, especially the years dated on the bottom. I only have a TRU Re-issue, and his year stamp on the feet reads 2003. Another clue to authenticity is the stickers. You mentioned the stickers are unapplied (and whatever you do, DO NOT EVER TAKE THEM OFF, the sticky backing is craptacular by this point and the reprolabels are richer in color along with being cut better so they fit into places where they would normally not, so the originals are much more valuable unapplied), so you have both the "hip" stickers. I can't remember exactly, but I know the re-issues of Prowl have a different number printed on those specific stickers as compared to the original (reprolabels made their set based on the original).

Here's a pic. I did fix the windshield w/ super glue. Then I broke it again transforming him. Fixed it once more and it's OK now. Until I break it again being a dope.

I will def leave the stickers alone and get him some Reprolabels. I might just pop one missile off the tree, though. This was such a fun surprise.

You know I love it so much more without stickers applied, such a pristine and unspoiled look!

Definitely pre-rub, the missile tree is the early type, not the later type with the little steps between the frame and the missiles themselves.

    A lovely find, congratulations.

I got an original G1 Prowl at Long Beach Comic Con. It's like most G1 figures and feels like a Hot Wheel in vehicle mode.

A co Worker of mine gave me her G1 Prowl. She applied most of the sticker and took two of the three missiles off. I have the box, but its not in great shape.. (she accidently crushed it) but the figure is dead mint. never been even played with... Prowl is a great figure!

I love hearing about stuff like this. That feeling you are describing is what I love most about collecting. I hope you always get a good feeling when you think about this.
