Found this today at Target in Indianapolis. Is it a new Target exclusive?

    Update: Added picture of UPC.

It does have a metallic shine to it, especially the silver and blue paint.

Local Target had the metallic Megatron clearances out. Hope this shows up.

Just in time to replace the last ReAction Optimus Prime that just got clearanced out.

It comes down to an increased number of paint operations, expensive license, low volume, and a market which bears the increased price.

Yeahhhh, as someone who actually caved and got one for no good reason, I truly have no idea why these things exist. I guess there\'s something for everyone out there, but I can\'t even begin to comprehend where my $18 went when I bought this cheap molded piece of plastic.

It’s part of Super7’s ReAction series, which is a variety of expensive, high-end figures from nostalgic TV shows and movies that mimic 1980s figures with limited articulation. Here’s a bunch of them.

Ugh… it looks really good, but it’s so damned expensive… I really wish these were to retail for around $10-12 each. There are some of these Super 7 figures in this line that are really nifty looking and would look awesome at my computer, but at nearly $20 each for such small figures with little articulation…

essentially its the way the toy industry works...the very large companies (Mattel, Hasbro) can produce mass volumes to balance out the pricing...the smaller companies have to make up the difference with smaller volumes produced...

there's a fascinating amount of information about toy costs/production in this pixel dan youtube video interview about the super7 gijoe line upcoming but the info pretty much applies to the reaction figs:

and now I gotta track down chrome Optimus at the mostly barren Target stores around here...
