Everybody is out having fun unlocking all the characters.

Me? I'm just sitting here playing around with the Original 8 because I feel like it. I'm in no hurry. I want to enjoy this time before things get over crowded.

 

Is it just me or does the AI seem tougher compared to the previous games?

 

Much tougher, especially when you need to unlock a character.

 

Captain Falcon (trying to unlock via new challenger) has kicked my butt four times now...while I've unlocked ~four others from his first loss. lol

Hopefully i'll finally win the next time.

Don't really care about Joker as a character. In fact I never heard of him or played the game he originated from. Hopefully I can appreciate him. Just because I never wanted K. Rool doesn't mean I don't want to play as him. In fact I think he is my favorite new character. I have no connection to K. Rool, it's really odd people did request an obsurce villian who lost relevance. But cool to see he has fans.

When I saw the trailer I thought it was a game in a whole new franchise, not a smash trailer. Also it was just a teaser with no gameplay, which isn't a bad thing.

I can imagine people going "Who is this?"

But Smash does introduce people to new franchises. Without some of these characters in Smash I think some of the characters will be irrelevant and obsurce. So be thankful for that.

We might see K. Rool in another DK game! Imagine a new 3D Donkey Kong game!

I would like to see Tails or Eggman make it into the game. What about Master Chief with Arbiter as an echo fighter? Cranky Kong? Blaziken? Gengar?

DLC costumes for characters? No one buys Mii outfits. Dr. Luigi? Mrs. Pac-Man? Evil Ryu? Akuma?

 

More spirits mode, I finally beat Dr. Wily and...fuck you says the game, that slow shield thing speeds up WITHOUT WARNING.

And then a rank one where it's nothing but peach running the fuck away. And I fail that because apparently running away is the new 'fighting' in a fighting game and I can't kill the bitch in time. A RANK FUCKING ONE.

I just don't understand what went wrong here. The core game is excellent, but this spirits mode bullshit is NOT FUN. And the fact you only get one shot at them before they vanish is...yeah, fuck the idea of practice against the hard ones apparently!

God I can't wait to be finished with this bullshit. If I wanted harder difficulties I would PUT IT ON DIFFICULT. Apparently they don't fucking know what "Normal" means anymore.

EDIT: and FUCK KAPPN. Seriously, his theme is just utterly horrible AND his two fights are AWFUL.

is it like the pauline spirit in "world of light" where mario W/ hammer and giant dk show up? i went with using samus, max-out M.bison with a rocket belt and Fast FS filler and AS MANY SKILLS ACTIVE THAT I COULD. rush over to peach and land a few hits, listen to when the hammer music stops. once it does, go where DK spawns and Up-B to instant-kill him. now it's entirely up to skill and RNGsus due to the possibility of the timeclock getting into mario's grimmy hands. focus on long distance shots against the cowarding singer and if time allowed, victory is at your grasp

 

No, it was some weird princess spirit where Wario also showed up for some reason.

And yeah, ever since getting M. Bison (who was hillariously easy to get for a rank 4) and maxing him, Spirits has gone from infuriating to actually something enjoyable since now I have ways of minimizing the bullshit where your damage output is reduced based on pure numbers. This isn't necessarily making it EASY - I legit only had 0.1 HP remaining when I used Ryu + Max M. Bison to finally defeat The Boss, that was a panic rush! - but it makes it actually a matter of simply being good instead of having to overcome legit handicaps put on you for the sake of artificial difficulty.

 

Welp, just hit a literal wall with the game and I think it's killed adventure mode for me. I legit can not unlock Young Link because the path you're supposed to take in the woods? I literally can stand right at the entrance and the character will not move down. I don't know what the fuck is going on but this REALLY killed the enthusiasm I had. Seriously, what the fuck Nintendo.

EDIT: You have to talk to the owl first and THEN go into the path. Ugh. What is it with Nintendo not making things clear?

I love how Classic mode has different ‘stories’ to it, with the opponents and bosses geared to each character. A lovely touch

Thought this was something nice and wholesome to share here.

 

So a thought occurred to me.

If the rumor about a second Square-Enix rep being DLC is true, I think the character in question may be a representative from Octopath Traveler. That game sold really well on the Switch, and got nominated for a few awards.

 

Crossed paths with a friend today. We plan to catch up sometime soon and play some Smash Bros. I guess that means I better start unlocking the characters pretty soon (soon than I wanted).

Feels too early. I'd give the game another week before releasing an update.

Also, this will affect replay videoes right?

I'd love an Octopath Traveler character. My best guess would be either Olberic or H'aanit because they are more fighter-orient. Everybody else uses magic a bit more than the other two.

If Octopath Traveler doesn't get a DLC rep, I'd be happy with them getting one in the next Smash since production on Ultimate probably started before Octopath did.

 

I don't know... Square seems... VERY non-interested in smash. No Spirits. 2 tracks of Music.. Not even a single frame of Cloud in the opening cut scene. Just seems like Square wants nothing to do with it.
