So my primary collection is MP, secondary is MMC scaled IDW but I've found myself liking a number of very nice Optimi/Megatrons recently and decided to add a new collection of matching sets of these two.
I have/will have:
MP-10 and MP-36 (G1)
GCreations Optimus and Gen Toys Bomber Megs (IDW)
Spark Toys Alpha Pack and Megatron (War Within)
What other quality paired Opti/Megs sets do people recommend?
Criteria: Has to be Optimus AND Megatron, not interested in Galvatron or Starsaber or Ginrai etc
No Bayverse figures, I just don't like the styling and Megatron looks ugly to me
Prefer larger scale - Voyager and up
Prefer detail and quality - nothing too plastic looking or poorly articulated
Happy for official or 3P or KO
Don't mind mixing manufacturers to get the best paired set
Edit: Willing to pay more for the best versions of a pair
Want unique takes in the characters (ie already have MP as a G1 version so no need for oversize or under size versions of MP-10)

Maybe WFC, Animated, Cross Dimension etc? open to suggestions and mini reviews.

 

Me, personally, will go with GT pairing. Megatron and Optimus is at their greatest shape I think. And considering their earlier products, it is safe to asume that those two will be homerun.

I don't have MP10 and not quite like the Gun Megatron concept (I know it is G1 authentic but it is just me).

Sparks Toys is great one, I have messed with their Optimus and truly a perfect figure. The only gripe is the aesthetic, if you are okay, you can go with their pairing.

MMC Megatron is GREAT concept wise. The problem is they don't have the Optimus. WFC Megatron is decent figure too if you want HasTak.

 

Cool. Which is the best WFC Optimus and Megs? HasTak, Second Chance, Planet X?

 

WFC is an awesome pair. Also Power master Optimus and CW leader tank Megatron is a good pair.

I am aiming for Ops vs Megatron sets only too.

Revoltech Dreamwave Convoy and Megatron, the former's shoulders are really bad though and both are overpriced now.

I personally am going for Maketoys Striker Manus x Riotor Despotron, and Toy Alliance Mega Optimus and the upcoming Megatron. I am an action figure centric guy.

Others that I respect but won't buy are the Transformers Prime pair and possibly the Hasbro Orion Pax x Megatronus combo(deluxe size though).

 

HasTak WFC Megatron is the best thing you can hope to get with that price point. To be frank, it is worthed about double the initial price they go with him. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for their Optimus...

(Hegemon could probably use the boots upgrade to make him a bit taller)

The obvious choice is Maketoys - Striker Manus and Rioter Despotron

Thanks all. Worth mentioning I want BEST version not cheapest. And I already have G1 so no need for additional MP-10 clones. I want a range of different takes on the characters.

 

Like the look of MT cross dimensions, Prime versions and Animated versions. WFCs look good too

 

MakeToys Cross Dimension. They blow away all other pairs right now.

 

How about tf Cybertron leader class Optimus and Galvatron? I know that you said no galvatrons, but this one is silver black red, which are g1 megs colors. So in my mind, he's basically Megatron.

 

My Optimus and megatron are itf abyss (upscaled wfc Optimus from deluxe to voyager) and megasteel tronus/Granville. They pair well as cybertronian version of the leaders at voyager size

I recently went with MT Despotron vs Hasbro MP10 w Eness hands and it's a great matchup, just waitng for a better 3P OP that bests MP10 in posability and articulation while staying true to MP scale and reasonably G1ish looks.

 

I want to do GCreation Optimus and GT Megatron, but I'm worried about the size. Megatron was about a head taller than Prime when he got his bomber design, and judging from posts the 3rd party Optimus is going to be bigger, though it is predicted as each company has their standards in height.

Then again I could always just stick with Primo Vitalis CW Optimus and GT Bomber Megatron then use the Gcreation Prime money for MMC Megatron.

 

I chose GCreation Prime because I liked the mould better. The GT one has hollow calves and heels plus huge panels on the forearms, plus it looks like the GT matrix is moulded in while GCreations looks to be removable. Plus an amazing price on GC's made the choice easy. GT Megs comes with a flight stand so have him hovering on that a few inches over Prime and the difference shouldn't be noticeable.

Go Maketoys Striker Manus and Rioter. They have great playability, even though Prime's alt mode is okay. You can find many reviews for Prime and there is at least one for Megatron one.
