I really don't think the dreads are that dark copper color though, if the figure in the showroom was the final product, they are bright orange, the promo pics are CG, so they can do whatever they want with the colors.

If they kept those Golden Locks, I would have just called this Dreadbot and be done with it.

Oh I hope not. They're not really similar at all. As much as they're half-arsed attempts, the repaints into different characters are mostly generic nobodies. Even though they really should've just repainted/remoulded Berserker, I kind of see how the Dreads might be treated as interchangeable goons. I think with the Autobots they'll at least acknowledge their individuality and get a new mould each. I really want a decent Dino to go with this Sideswipe.

With the car dino turns into you could keep the torso transformation and rework the legs ie how SS Lockdown is a heavy retool of TLK Barricade

He's not really a retool of Barricade though. They have a similar leg transformation, but then so do other figures like Cogman and AOE Bumblebee. It's a bit like saying G1 Jazz is a retool of Bluestreak because their chests are formed the same way from the front of the car.

Dino's torso doesn't form from the front of the car in the same way as Jazz's, and he has the door wings. If anything, something closer to Bumblebee's engineering would make sense. But honestly they're different enough to warrant a new mould.

Basically what I meant was using a molds engineering for part of a figure and totally new tooling for the rest

Yes, yes. I agree with you two. That gold was horrible. I hope he comes with the dark copper to make the figure more acceptable, but if not...

Observing Berserker TLK in comparison with Crowbar SS, I realized that a new Berserker coloring in the Studio Series line is useless... since, it is already in line with Crowbar's coloring (but at this point it was useless, even realize a recolor by Crowbar to call it "Crankcase"...)! However now Hasbro has no more excuses (about Hatchet)... since, there is a reference model made in 2011: Hatchet DOTM, Commander Class Cyberverse, a nice model but it needs a couple of changes: 1) the size (from Scout Class to Deluxe Class), 2) and change the alternative mode (from airplane to Chevy Suburban). In this way, with Berserker TLK (Crankcase), Crowbar SS and "Hatchet SS" you can finally complete the Dreads team! The alternative mode of Hatchet DOTM, was perfect for Nitro TLK... (since, in the film TF5 it was a "Dassault Rafale", a modern "Mirage" of the French aviation!

My problem with "Crankcase" is that it goes against the "screen accuracy" they were going for and sets a bad precedent. Whats to stop them from re-releasing ROTF Megatron with some extra paint apps and calling it 2007 movie Megatron? Or re-releasing Optimus in brighter colors with no retooling as DOTM Optimus?

Shit! I didn’t know they were answering questions on instagram! I wonder if they got a bunch of crowbar/crankcase questions. I would’ve asked why Megatron is so damn giant compared to Prime. And don’t give me that “Cause he was bigger in the movie.” No he wasn’t. Are people going off of the height they accidentally made too big for the S7 frozen model?

Not only jetfire. But it also gets me thinking about Megatron.

Funny enough for a second when I saw this I thought the leader class Megatron from the listings was a mistake and its a leader class galvatron which I know wolnt happen.

    Yes, he was.

A casual glance at literally any scene with the two shows Megatron is much bigger than Prime. Hell, it's the movies that set that precedent in the first place.

Time to bring up that infamous scale chart again!

They were basing the designs off of a scale chart so using this, we can see the scale for all of the characters were roughly based off of this (well, besides for Blackout because Hasbro decided to go with Grindor's scale for some reason). The papers say Megatron is 35 feet and Prime is 28 feet so I feel like they appropriately got the 7 feet difference down in toy form.
