Ah, yes. Another figure I want shows up at the store with the most inconsistent stock first, again.

I'm in stitches about how the majority of the core class shelfwarms.... but throw in ONE G1 tape and we have a toy that flies off of shelves!

Where's all the "Geewunner" whiners who want to blame Hasbro for making one fig people want?  

 

We need to stop considering GameStop “US retail”- It’s really a fan channel at this point.

Core-class or not, HasTak has proven that they can make quality Cassettes if they wanted to...

I'm really on the ropes on if I even want this cassette as a placeholder. Because I really hope that Dr. Wu has more plans on cassettes for Blaster and Soundwave after Killjoy and Slugfest.

 

It's both, though, a "Fan Channel" with a chain of physical stores selling items at MSRP.

 

So glad I was able to pre order mine via GameSpot. Finding those little guys near I live is a real pain.

 

You can't compare a Core class figure to an MP figure. That said, compared to other Core class cassettes, this one is a little underwhelming. He feels more like a mainline release, like a pack-in with Blaster, rather than a standalone SS86 release.

Even with his shortcomings, I'll still pick him up to go with Twincast. I got the opaque Eject for Blaster. But Rewind only exists as a stupid translucent figure.

 

Well, good thing I wasn't...

My point was that this Core-class Steeljaw's quality could've been better than a 2/10. They could've borrowed some of MP Nightstalker's blueprints instead of adding cheap accessories (fist speakers) that no-one asked for.

 

What are the odds that the Ramhorn being released with 86 Perceptor and Ratbat next year is going to be a cheap retool of this 86 Steeljaw..?

They're making quality Soundwave's and Blaster's while dragging their feet with releasing cassettes. Thus boosting the anticipation for'em. Only we're waiting 2+ years for Happy Meal quality Cassettes as a result... So I believe the odds are about 75% and a pass if I'm right since a lot of us don't need another Perceptor anyway.

 

Yes, but they have an entirely different business model. They get Selects items and stuff at their stores randomly. Their locations are like outlets for their website, not normal retail location.

If it isn’t Walmart, Target, or a comparable chain it doesn’t really qualify as “US retail” in terms of this specific hobby.

 

If you weren't comparing them together, then fine. I'll take you at your word. But you didn't communicate your point clearly. You posted a picture juxtaposing a Core figure and an MP figure. Then, right under the picture of the MP figure, you stated "Core-class or not, HasTak has proven that they can make quality Cassettes if they wanted to..." Can you see how this would come across to someone as a comparison?

 

I feel like the only person who thinks Steeljaw isn't that bad. He's just a simple little guy to stick into Blaster's chest or chain up in his front yard, lol. Anything like this will look like crap blown up on a screen. I'm sure I'll like him just fine in-hand. I guess my only complaint might be the fitment issue with Blaster's chest cavity...probably just need to shave him.

 

Once the collection is complete they have no customers.

My friend found one 2 weeks ago at Target in California. They stopped carrying Studio Series core in my area though  

I like the Steeljaw. He could use more articulation but he looks just fine in person and he is a little snug. Other than that I have no complaints and really like him over my Titans Return version.

Which is why me and many others have mentioned why they believe HasTak half@ss figures so much. Only problem with that is that they end up competing with themselves...

Plus it's hard to forget when Deluxe figures were only $10 and this cassette was an actual accessory:

 

I still use my Universe version on my shelf with the Henkei Hound. I got the toyhax stickers and Dr. Wu rocket upgrades. Such an awesome toy that will take some time to be beat.

 

They're still not ma and pa hole in the wall stores selling at a dealer mark-up, either, they are a major chain. Your opinion is that it has to be a "department store" to count, but Gamestop really is just another form of traditional retail.

Bottomline is that in an era where there aren't a whole lot of those other "comparable" outlets to beat Gamestop to the punch out there anymore, TFW has decided that they count enough for the front page.

 

Does anyone know if there will be a repack of Rumble Frenzy the red one? Found him once and never again.
