Still less contradictory than Optimus somehow being around for hundreds of years, yet also only being here since 1987, but also arriving only in 2007 to an “unknown planet”. There’s changing your mind to tell a better story and then sticking to it, and then there’s not being able to make up your mind. Regardless I think it’s safe to say this movie along with bumblebee being a reboot to stop this time nonsense is a good idea.
You know, if one could reshell this into, say, an R34, this would actually be a really neat Drift. Especially if the doors are modded to sheathe his swords.

Retcons rarely serve the plot and almost always feel like ass-pulls, yet so many use them as a crutch. Ah well, I hope the movie is at least decent
Well, that's what happens when you don't have an actual plan moving forward AND the only kind of plot that you can come up with is 'old stuff from the past has been on/in/around Earth this whole time and only just now became relevant again'. The irony being that if they'd actually just straight up did the whole 'Transformers illuminati history' schtick in the second movie since ROTF already kind of has that with the stuff in Simmon's secret bunker, then they would have had carte blanche to shove in all kinds of Cybertronian crap left over from any point in human history.
Continuity inconsistency is a key part of Bayverse, why bother trying to make sense of it? Will you feel lied to if they tie in this film (or the next) with the previous Bay films?
One of the weirder points from ROTF, since you mentioned it, is that Jetfire has been there for years before most of the others...and no one picked up on his energy signature or whatever?
Here you go: Rise of the Beasts Expectations Thread As I mentioned, I really don't get why people insist on calling this a reboot if the screenwriters can still do whatever they want. If the studio chooses to tie this film or the next with the others, then the whole gun ho attitude about this being a reboot will have been for nothing. Let's not focus our energy on something that is so arbitrary as the continuity of the live action TF movie series. They couldn't even keep a throughline in Wheeljack's design from the previous film to this one, I don't know why people are suddenly expecting consistency in this franchise. Let's just enjoy it for the big nonsense fest that it is and revel at seeing millions of dollars spent on our beloved characters being showcased on the big screen.
