Saw this and I was like “Who is Overload?” I looked him up on tfwiki. Apparently he’s a dump truck. I’m surprised they’re making a leader class figure of such an obscure character, but I guess the Overload fans will be happy.

Well part of the reason he's a leader is because he a component for Devastator, specifically the lower torso, so he's arguably the most important part. That and his robot mode is badass.

I'll riot if he doesn't come with scrotum balls.

...he's a component to Devastator. They're making him because they're completing Devastator.

Also, it's weird to single out Overload as obscure when:
    - Scrapmetal didn't exist in toy form until Studio Series.
    - Three others didn't exist beyond the EZ version (Scrapper, Hightower, Overload)
    - Of the remaining four who got toys during RotF, only two had any extended screen time (Rampage, Scavenger).

SS Devy isn't "obscure" but 6 of his 8 components sure are.

I completely understand why he’s getting a toy. I’m just surprised they’re giving a leader class figure to any character who didn’t have a major role in the films.

And I’m definitely not trying to hate. If you’re an Overload fan, more power to you

He's the lower torso and upper legs, he pretty much needs to be a leader class to make it work.

It's not about his role in the film. It's about needing to be a leader to accurately reflect the character in comparison to other Studio Series figures and to serve as a key piece of the overall combiner.

They can't do a Studio Series Devy w/out doing a Leader Overload.

Guys, he's not disputing that it needs to be a leader class to work, just that it's interesting that a character with NO robot mode and a brief appearance in alt mode in the film gets the leader class designation.

I'm not sure why you're "surprised". Leader Class is just a price point in the end. While traditionally it's been reserved for "flagship" characters, in this case, it's just a means to an end. Overload is a big boi, and for the sake of functionality, needs that large-scaled toy to work.

There's nothing to it other than functionality. He needs big, he gets big. Given how integral he is for the structural stability and aesthetics of Devy, pretty sure robot mode will suffer

Neither of us have disputed.that, so it seems useless to mention it's function. It's just funny that out of all the characters left, one that didn't even appear in the film gets the largest class designation.

I'm sorry, but I don't see why its surprising or even noteworthy. Big guy vital to bigger guy in line favoring scale get big toy.

2 legs. 4 legs is just a bit too much.

The way you've been harping on it, I don't even think there really is much of a point to be "arguing" about. Kaynowa's just stressing perhaps the poor choice of words on the subject, and that's all there is to it.

I don't mean to harp on it. I was just trying to help clarify why OP meant, even though it was pretty clear and this dude repeatedly misses the point and instead fixates on his role as the supporting figure in Devastator. I'll just drop it though. It's not like it was an important conversation anyway lol Should have known this would happen.

I think Kaynowa (and a number of others, including me) are just picking at, and somewhat confused, by the constant use of the word "surprised", where if he understands the purpose and design of the figure and character, is not surprising at all.

It's perhaps "amusing" that an utter nobody, not even fully depicted on-screen gets the big flagship toy pricepoint. But between the line's mission statement, the character's design, and the toy's function, there should be nothing "surprising" about what it has to be.

If anything, the "surprise" is that we're getting Studio Series Devastator at all. After you get over that fact, the necessity for a bunch of onscreen nobodies to hog up a bunch of expensive price points is just an inevitability.
