I don't think the problem with Kup's face was on the designer. Looking at the 2 images, where first we see iterations on making the robot mode design, then the grayscale prototype, Kup's face looks perfectly screen-accurate.

Something probably happened in communicating instructions for the final production version to the factory that caused the face to be stretched out. It's most likely out of his hands at that point, since it would then be (an expensive) mold change, not a color or paint change.

EDIT: D'OH! They didn't stretch the face, they stretched the head! You can see the difference in proportions on the head below the "ear" circles.

Huh, I didn't know Takio Ejima had a hand in Studio Series Kup! That just makes me like it even more.

Seems like a great designer who is a deep TransFormers fan. Always appreciate the painted wheels and another reminder that the people who work directly on the figures really get it now, even if Hasbro management obviously still doesn't.

Always appreciate insights and transparency helps fans know more truth about the hobby we love.

Hasbro management gets it too, to give them the leeway to put such passion into their work.

But they're forced to play bad cop too, and put their foot down when enough is enough and the economic realities take over from the wide-eyed dreaming.

Reading that part about how most of the brand members getting moved to other brands makes sense why marketing has sucked for the last 2 years.
Wasnt zoids the brand that Evan got moved to? I think i remember seeing him on the pulse con stream, it sucks that brand revival failed and never got to see retail at all.

Awesome breakdown, always love to read this kind of insight into figures. Hope they do a version of Jazz with solid windows though, really like how it looks on Cliffjumper and Kup

I'm curious to why they had to change the number on Jazz. I mean, if they were going for as close to the animation model. The same issue with Wheeljack and Smokescreen not having their original numbers.

Wheelie was originally planned to be a core class figure to go with Grimlock?

I would have preferred that he had just been scrapped entirely and that portion of the budget fully invested into Grimlock. There’s always another time for a better Wheelie.

Well, this supposed to say 86 (no clue as to why it's listed as Tf7 since he never appeared in Bumblebee) but you are getting a core class Wheelie!

I think these two on the left look about a hundred times better, and it would have been easier to do than those disasters on the right.

This insight was quite nice! I hope this also means the potential for a version of Jazz without clear plastic is possible, now. I actually quite enjoy his SS86 figure, but I'm rather afraid to mess with it :lol

Also, I'm glad to have an explanation for why Grimlock's neck is painted. That was always a decision that struck me as odd considering the detail that's lost beneath it.

Fans: "Hasbro should tell us what's coming as soon as there's concept drawings!"

    The concept drawings:

    upload_2022-4-8_9-39-35.png

Aren't you the guy who complains that we aren't told what's coming as soon as humanly possible? But now you're complaining that the final product doesn't look like the concept art?

Gee whiz, I was right. There's a reason HasTak doesn't show us stuff until it's production ready.

It literally says The Transformers The Movie on the images he posted. That's the point: to look like the movie.
