Also remember that some of these figures were at some point intended for the WfC trilogy. Gnaw (as he was in the fan's vote) and Scourge (since he fits in well with his Galvatron and Cyclonus buddies) are the most likely candidates but it's also possible to throw Jazz, Hot Rod, and Kup into the mix. However somewhere along the line the character line-up got shuffled around.
My best speculation is that they decided to lean more heavily into Beast Wars than originally planned, which bumped a number of G1'ers out of the trilogy. Then someone got the idea of including them into the SS line as a subset.
That becomes a win-win for everyone at Hasbro. You get to flesh out the BW angle earlier than planned, keep the G1 crowd happy, and pad out the SS line for another year or so.

The Dinobot inclusion is the one that is throwing me for a loop. The characters were just done in PotP, albeit in somewhat neutered form due to the combiner necessity. Maybe there were older figure plans lying around that they dusted off. Though I suppose it's also possible that they were envisioned as part of an "on Earth" component of WfC and thus also got bumped.

That's been my take too. To that end, I'm not anticipating an eventual Rodimus Prime upgrade in the line. I think Hasbro would love to forget the Space Winnebago alt mode as soon as is convenient. I'd love to eat my words, but my guess is that's the difference between a proper SS line and the split out from WFC.

Rodimus Prime is happening, in Kingdom as a Commander.

Other than Grimlock, all the other Dinobots were really just G1 updates. I'm not seeing any design compromises due to the Combiner port.

In no way is that confirmed yet it's only a popular theory based on insider comments.

It's TECHNICALLY not confirmed, but come on. He comes with blast effects, Rodimus's size is controversial, there aren't any Leader or Voyager slots in Kingdom, the Kingdom Commander isn't Beast Wars... he's definitely the commander.

You might say size. While I wasn't a proponent, there were a number of people who thought that all the figures should be voyager or even leader class. There is no way they could have done that short of a box set for retail purposes.

I'm all for scale, but there's not any sensible way to do that with the Dinobots.

Really? As I said, you could do it as a box set of some sort. Look at CW Devestator or the PotP Predacons. They were voyager scaled in size. A voyager Dinobot set would be feasible since you wouldn't even have to weigh them down with extra combiner parts or saddle the molds with combiner gimmick limitations. The question is would Hasbro think something like that be profitable. My guess is likely no, but since the 86 Slag is likely to be Voyager scaled, I suppose we will see how well it sells.

I'm referring to dinosaur scale vs. robot scale. If we're going by Dinosaur scale, Swoop would probably be Legends size. Snarl and Slag would be Voyager size. Grimlock would be Leader size and Sludge would be Commander sized.

I may be in the minority, but I hate the size of the PotP Predacons. I also hate how cheap they feel and how simplistic the designs are.

If this can be pulled off in a legends scale
then I see no reason it can't be pulled off as a voyeger upload_2020-9-28_19-49-7.png

I think it’s a good chance we could see Sludge and Swoop come out towards the end of next year

Has it ACTUALLY been confirmed that this is a filler line for WFC or are people just assuming that this is the case? Going forward, if there are going to be two iterations of the characters I want to collect then I need to make a decision as to which route I am going to take.
