If you're referring to the million continuities, there's the cartoon, the Japanese cartoons, the marvel comics, marvel UK had it's own continuity, there were the ladybird books, and I think Germany also had their own comics and the Japanese manga.
If not, then I don't know what you're laughing about. The Marvel Comics came out first and lasted another 4 years compared to the cartoon, with it also getting a sequel in G2 and a crossover with G.I.Joe. And even without the cartoon and comics, every character had their own bio in their tech spec, giving them a function, personality and strengths and weaknesses without a story attached. You have to live with the fact that the "Almighty and Glorious" cartoon you so strongly worship isn't the only thing about G1.

It may not be the only thing, but it's the only one that matters. It gave all these characters a voice, something comics can never do therefore a whole other layer of personality. Marvel couldn't even tell a story thread without diverting to some completely irrelevant side story for several issues before getting back to the main plot.

And sure, the cartoon sucked too. The stories were silly, animation terribly inconsistent and all kinds of other issues. It still had the most exposure, reach and character building.

lmao even bringing up the Ladybird books as if anyone was clamoring for anything related to those forgettable things.

I gotta agree there. Far more kids watched the cartoon than had the toys or read the comics. I'd say the same applied to He-Man, GI Joe, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

People still have fond memories of Marvel UK. That "outdated" color scheme was used prominently for a time.

Doesn't mean kids did not have the toys or read the comics.

It was all three, and thanks to the comic store I went to, I even got the odd UK issues and specials.

I slightly prefer the toy deco for more red, but I just love this as an alternate color scheme. I just love alternate color schemes in general, probably due to growing up with Street Fighter and the millions of different colored outfits the characters had between all of the games. That was another appeal of Transformers, and why I happily buy repaints.

On it's own, I love the toy colors because the grey makes him closer to Megatron, which gives that connection a bit more weight.

I would have loved if Magnus had been the Diaclone deco and that he'd been a revived Optimus Prime, because those colors would also carry that connection, though I do love Magnus as-is as well.

Yeah, I'm so glad SS'86 Grimlock has none of that irrelevant toy crap. Can you imagine if it had a smoky translucent chest plate or the molded details and more angular shapes of the g1 toy? That'd be so much cringe. The only thing cringier would be if Hot Rod had come with a pair of toyetic guns, that'd be a one way ticket straight to Cringeville.

I wonder if they’ll make Sludge bigger than the others since he’s a Sauropod?

Bummed but not surprised Slag's gonna have his ugly red face. And Swoop, whenever he happens will be blue and stand out like a sore thumb with the rest of the group because of it. And I can't wait to buy both decos of Galvatron because fuck pieces of shit who decide to be jerks just out of, I dunno, some weird sense of superiority that they prefer a version of something the majority prefers?

While I totally see the appeal in owning both I think calling people 'pieces of shit' and then claiming they're jerks is a bit... hypocritical? Sends the wrong message?

The last of the 1986(?) for 2020 to 2021? My Scourge has just shipped from Amazon. Only left would be Wreck-Gar and the other Dinobots?

Wreck Gar, the Sweep, Slag and Gnaw are the remaining 86 stuff for Studio Series this year (as far as it has been reported). Next year apparently its Coronation Starscream, Swoop and maybe a Junkion (though its unclear if he'll be released in SS, or in Gen Selects), Sludge and Snarl may or may not be released under SS
