Not sure but if an effect part can remain attached within the mouth when the mouth is closed, that might be the answer.

The wheelie accessory is pointless. They should’ve just made a separate core class figure for Kingdom.

I picked this guy up in my way to work today, and with what little time I had to mess with him I really did him. Nice and hefty with a transformation that's simple but satisfying. I think my only wish would be for forearm panels to hide the gap in robot mode as well as the hands in dino mode. I dont even mind Wheelie as an accessory, but I'm sure we'll get a redeco with his sword at some point.

I'm certain that's the reason. I could definitely see the front teeth breaking if the jaw was accidentally closed too hard with an effect in there.

I got Hot Rod, BW Megs and Grimlock on the same day, and between the three of them its been really neat seeing MP concepts adapted to smaller, lighter, and ultimately more playable figures.

Grimlock has me excited for other dinobots in a way that the neither POTP or any of the 3rd party sets did it for me. They'll all just be big, chunky doofy dinosaurs and I'm excited to see how they execute that, however many they actually do.

Wheelies legs barely hold on and its a bummer he couldn't even have knees and a thigh swivel, as I think that would allow him to stand on his own better and attach to Grimlock more easily.

Otherwise, this is probably what you would hope for in a G1 Grimlock at this price point.

Anyone able to take any pictures of this Grimlock with POTP Grimlock WITH the Perfect Effect thigh/forearm upgrade kit that beefed up that figure?

I'll definitely be getting the Studio Series deluxes (unsure on Blurr as I love my Tak Legends) and both the voyagers, but weirdly Grimlock's the only one that doesn't do it 100% for me.

Though probably the fact I splurged on the Previously mentioned PE Volcanicus upgrades just before this was revealed might have something to do with it...

I like this guy, but damn are his arms too long in person. They really need something to let the shoulders slide up.

also, one of the knees is loose, anyone open up the ratchet and tried repairing it yet?

I would have taken a sword over Wheelie.

I don't have this figure yet, but my one complaint from pictures is that I wish the shoulders could sit slightly higher up. Also, it would be interesting to see how the neck would look with the paint done differently, since we know it's clear plastic underneath.

I truly believe we'll see a toy-accurate repaint down the line. The sculpt work is there under the clear plastic and wouldn't be if there wasn't a future need for it.

IS SS86 Grimlock's chest clear plastic too, or is it just the neck?

I would so vastly prefer a toy deco on this guy (with vac-metal if it was through Selects – a guy can dream) that I wonder if I should hold off on this version. I don't usually gamble with toy releases but I just hate that opaque gold neck.

I dunno. To me, it just seems like Hasbro just screwed up. Clear plastic would have been fine. The neck pieces being painted in reverse to cover up the dark smoke plastic is like covering up one mistake with another. I'll get in hand soon and then look at options to fix that.

Has anyone tried prying off the black chest piece? I think I’d prefer just the yellow gold chest with an obvious insignia, even if you lose the shape of that chest piece

It's held on by two screws.

For a mainline figure I have very few issues with this guy, just some cosmetic things I would change really.
    It’s a great figure

Pic below with the chest window removed for those interested.
Personally, I prefer this look for an 86 cartoon styled Grimlock since its not an animation trait and the smoked plastic just isn’t a look I really like.

You will have to remove two screws from the back side of his torso and set them aside somewhere since they will no longer screw in to the toy with the window missing, but them missing doesn’t negatively affect the figure whatsoever

The good news is the holes left behind are 5mm. This means any 5mm screw hole cover should fit in them if you ever want to try and hide them, you’ll just need to match the color.

Awesome, thank you. I think that looks much better and still retains the shape nicely. Much better representation of the animation model, will do the same when I get him.
