    2/20/21 update:
I WENT FURTHER WITH A MORE GENERALIZED OVERHAUL OF KUP:
    Minor/Repaint: - SS86 Kup overhaul

    2/7/21 update:

Looking at this face some more, I think another problem is the dark, beady eyes that are spaced a bit too far apart. So I opened the head and carved out some plastic on the medial aspects of the eye “sockets”, thereby making them a bit larger and closer together. I also hit the translucent eyes themselves with metallic blue paint to liven them up. This is the end result.

    Quick mod here.

Finally got my hands on Kup. Like many, I was put off a bit by the head sculpt. The problem is two-fold: first, the excessively long, square jaw (similar to Kingdom Cyclonus), which subsequently makes the helmet appear too small. And second, the pointy, upturned nose. The following image courtesy of Ton Ton Review:

Nothing can really be done about the nose, but the jaw seemed amenable to a little cosmetic surgery. And for better or worse, I’ve never been afraid to take a blade and needle files to a face sculpt. So, with a little cutting, sculpting, and shaping, we have something that I think looks more Kup-like:

Overall I think it looks truer to the character.

Simple yet elegant. Perfect fix and a much better representation.

Great job man. I plan to do the same. I haven't seen the figure in hand, so I don't know if I can sand the cheekbones. If you know how to sculpt epoxy putty, may I suggest working on the brow, just a little to get rid of his worried old man eyes.

Wow that looks great! I personally really dig the Xtransbots Kup headsculpt in terms of conveying the idea of the character without having to compare it to an animation model. What you've done seems to achieve a similar result as well. It's crazy how much of an impact shaving the bottom of the jaw to align with the bottom of the cheek guards can have. Can't wait to do this when ss86 deluxes come by my area.

very nice, someone should design a better headsculpt via shapeways... There is definitely a market for it...

Any chance you plan on doing the same with Blurr? He needs it too.

Yeah, I’ve been studying Kup’s face since his reveal, to figure out how to modify the head to resemble his likeness more. The conclusion I’ve reached is the same as you guys: the chin is too long and the cheek bones to sharp. The eyes could use a pale blue look as well. Whoever sculpted Kup’s face must’ve done Blurr’s face too because they went chin crazy.

Updated sculpt. Re-shaped and painted the eyes.

I used your examples as a reference but went with a more squared off jaw that evokes Kup as a whole alot more than the base figure. Thanks for the initial suggestion! I would have never thought of it myself.

This is good work. :thumb  Coloring his eyes like y'all have been doing massively helps give him life.

I've seen people laud the return of light piping in this year's figures but it's super weird to me that some have them while others don't. Cyclonus is the only one for me that absorbs enough light to look consistently good. Kup and Blurr were dying for paint out of the box.

Good work, I think the major problem the head has is that the eyes are far too small with the bags below being far bigger than the eyes themselves, the bags should be subtle but instead they look like the G1 toy’s eyes
