Correct colours, increased size, full paint, no space-saving cavities or cost-cutting blemishes, more accurate sculpt, perhaps a slightly better alt mode shape, the general quality of life improvements that should come with Masterpieces.

Not saying they necessarily would, though.

They’ve already made this figure in masterpiece line twice now. Can we get masterpiece figures for characters we don’t have instead of more of what we already do have?

I'm just saying, if they think they can squeeze more money out, they'll try. To be fair though, if they thought there was enough of a market for hot rod, im sure thered be enough for them to consider season 3 mps, so I doubt it. Only 3ps have been doing it so far

 

I would suggest a MP40 cartoon like improvement. Definitely increase in size is one. But quite frankly, I lack the background to know what's doable from an engineering, design and creative execution standpoint. This SS86 Hotrod shows that it is highly probable to improve from previous iterations.

Times definitely have forced improvements in the Transformers toy world, and expedited in recent years. On a tangent, I didn't think that something like a Studio Cell (Unicron) is possible, or a Haslab Unicron would come out. Years back, I would have been very ecstatic with a Beast Wars Neo Unicron and still would be happy if something like that was release.

Everyone is excited about how "perfect" this is, yet nobody is raving about the car mode.

I wonder why.

 

I actually thought the car mode is great. I'm guessing its cause the bot mode is so great, and all the accessories are dedicated to bot mode, that there's not as much to say about car mode.

 

I give this figure a 9.5 out of 10. Nearly PERFECT. Bot mode, car mode are great! What are the .5 flaws? The use of the same yellow plastic from the fin to make the various joints. It would have been better to paint the fin yellow and use red plastic to match the body instead. Of course then the fin would get chipped. Probably not in the budget anyway...

Other minor flaw is I wish the arms had the ability to be pulled out at the shoulder from the chest a little bit so he could more easily grab things in front - more butterfly joint effect. The wide chest hinders this movement.

 

because a perfect alt mode is a lot less incredible and remarkable than a perfect robot mode.

 

While not perfectly show accurate, I really like the look of the car mode. Except for the big ass yellow hinge right on the middle of the roof though, of course.

 

I'll be painting that. (although I really shouldn't have to)

Pretty sure the yellow plastic is the so-called "unpaintable" type. The factory paints don't adhere to it at all, so that's why they opted to do it in that way, so that the fin would be the proper yellow.

 

I was just estimating. Between the price and often questionable QC, I avoid the Masterpiece line.
This Hot Rod is more than good enough for me. I don’t see enough that a new MP could do better that would justify the enormous difference in price.

 

Yeah, that what I'm assuming as well.

 

Hopefully ToyHax will get a sticker to cover it up, maybe?

I painted that orange bit in the spoiler no problem at all. And I agree, this thing is awesome.

I never buy two, but I did just because I like the in package look as well.

 

"Unpaintable" plastic is only such by HasTak factory standards. Their specific paints don't bond to it. They don't use off-the-shelf acrylics or enamels.
