Yeah, definitely feeling a bit of buyer's remorse with Kup, which is a shame since I was really looking forward to an upgrade from my LG version.

if anything I just wish the arms didn't come off as easy as they do, and the transformation is just not fun.
Thicker limbs would have been nice too.

For me the biggest disappointment with this figure is the lack of wrist swivel. There’s no reason at all he shouldn’t have a swivel there except Hasbro wanting save a few cents by reducing the parts count IMO

I'm happy with my William Defoe, wish the face wasn't as long as it is, but all in all happy!

Time for an audience with the King.

Ya know, I was genuinely glad to have gotten the POTP Dinobots. I’d never had all of them all at once from the same line. Flawed as they may be, I still think they are decent figures.

    BUT. HOLY. SHIT!!

When it was announced that the Studio Series line would have a subline of figures from the animated movie that may include the Dinobots, I dared to hope. Normally, I’m not such a stickler for scale, but even I’ll admit the POTP figures are too small. To get properly sized, screen accurate Dinobots would be a childhood dream come true. And it’s friggin’ happening right now.

SS86 Grimlock is absolutely glorious! I own the MP version as well. But this, THIS is Grimlock as he should be. Aside from the smoky translucent chest piece (which I actually kinda like), this is the most screen accurate Grimlock ever. If the rest of the Dinobots (fingers crossed, besides the confirmed Slag w/Daniel), come out looking this awesome, I could die a happier man.

For a bot of his bulk, Grimlock has some excellent articulation. Though the soft ratchet on my copy’s right leg is a little iffy, the joints are still nice and strong enough to pull off some great poses. His classic double-barrel blaster is excellently molded and suits him perfectly.
I’m not all that bothered that he didn’t come with his sword. Since the SS line likes to go for screen accuracy, it makes sense since he didn’t use it in the film. Hell, he was barely in robot mode for most of the movie to even wield a sword anyway. And Wheelie isn’t a totally unwelcome addition for me, I just wish he had better articulation at the very least, much less could transform.
    AE7FBEAB-CCAB-40CD-BBFB-6707E476F9F1.jpeg
But still, I think he incorporates well with Grimlock. As annoying as Wheelie can be, he adds a little levity to counterbalance how overly serious Grimlock takes himself. The Wheelie figure itself is painted quite well overall and at least they gave him his slingshot with just enough articulation to look like he’s shooting it.

Classic duo! Grimlock in Dino mode is super imposing. Looks damn near spot on to the movie, save for the smoky translucent piece on what is now his belly area. The level of detail is staggering and I love the gold on his neck and toes. But, admittedly I would give up Wheelie if it meant having enough money in the budget for Grimlock to have some front teeth. What were they thinking?

Poseability is a bit more limited in Dino mode, but with the double jointed knees and decent center of gravity he can pull off a couple good roaring poses.

Going back to that chest piece, I do like that it breaks up that beautiful golden yellow chest. Without it, I think it would’ve just been too bright. Plus, it’s a nice nod to the G1 toy.
However, I don’t like that it hides the Autobot symbol so much. So, like others in these forums, I found a suitable Toyhax sticker to place on the outside. Looks pretty good, if I do say so myself. Just looks drop dead sexy with that blue visor subtly shimmering under that exquisite helmet of his.
SS86 Grimlock is hands down my favorite iteration of this character I’ve ever owned. Like so many others, the Dinobots have always been deeply beloved characters. I’m so happy to see that we may be getting a full set of them finally reaching towards the heights of greatness they’re meant for in a toy from a main line.
Now bring on the rest of the Dinobots! Grimlock needs his loyal subjects.

hahaha ...implants are expensive. Maybe that’s Hermey instead of Wheelie and extraction pliers instead of a slingshot.

The neck peg snapped when I tried to remove the old head. I kept the ball joint in the figure and then used hot glue to fix the classics head to the snapped peg section.

My copy of Scourge has a melted peg used to hold the head piece in vehicle mode... step 11 by the instructions. Should I just whittle it down and hope for the best? Or does it do more than just hold the robot head piece down?

    Pic:
    Scourge peg melted

Bonus dirt apps and a plastic piece sticking off the front tip of where the front will join up. General QC fail on this one. :(
