So do we believe SS86 Grimlock is now the definitive retail version of the G1 character? Or is POTP is still stronger? I tend to believe SS86 takes the crown now if only based on scale.

Also, I know there is the believe that Slag and Swoop are planned for SS86? Can someone remind me of the source? I’m trying to decide whether to hold onto my POTP Dinobots or not.

I can't remember the source, but according to @wreckgar39, all five Dinobots are coming in SS86. If you have Slash, hold onto her.

I know this isn't technically an appreciation post, but idk where else to post it. After being slightly disappointed in ER Ultra Magnus, I've realised that I'm not especially interested in Magnus being an inner bot who can armor up. I much prefer the all in one G1 cartoon idea. With that in mind, I've started work on my own design, with the SS86 aesthetic as the goal. I've got the basic geometry of the bot mode mostly down, and about 80% of the transformation figured out, just need to iron out the details. But I don't have any experience 3d modelling and I don't have a 3d printer, so I'm not sure how to turn this from a drawing into something real

Here's a random Hot Rod pic to keep this at least slightly on topic

Thanks. I just answered my own questions by reading the Speculation thread. Forum user fail. I do have Slash. I really like the POTP Dinobots personally and they bring the nostalgia factor for the G1 toy, but these SS86 versions will be hard to resist.

no? Other than swinging down for transformation

yeah I would like a sword, unfortunately new wheelies slingshot will not be compatible with TR wheelie unless you use an adapter, as the handle is 3mm, and TRs hands are for 5mm

Am I stupid to be thinking of getting all the studio series versions of these Dinobots and just sell off my Gigapower set? Scale-be-damned but I’m absolutely loving these designs and think they fit in with the cartoon MP vibe perfectly.

It looks great! I have a very roundabout suggestion. Fusion 360 is a very comprehensive 3D design program that multiple users on here, myself included, use to design figures. You can get a free hobbyist license, and there are many tutorials available on the internet to help get you started. I've found it relatively intuitive, and with a bit of playing around can be very easy to use. If you want to, you could create your figure in Fusion, and even if you don't get to print it, you could use the measurements to scratchbuild your design to those specifications. Doing it in Fusion will get the brunt of it over with, as the scratchbuilding will go much more smoothly if you have exact measurements.

I've been having the same problem. I don't want to drop $250 on new Dinobots, but the new ones are going to be the best mainline versions for a very long time if Grim is any indication. I'm going to circumvent this by scratchbuilding some height upgrades for them to make them Leader-sized, but that's not an option for everyone. My best suggestion is that if you only want one set of Dinobots to fit into your collection, get the SS86/whatever-line-Snarl-and-Sludge-are-in versions. If you want a fun set of more toy-accurate Dinobots that can also combine, get both or keep your POTP versions. Slash could stay either way, since she won't be updated.

(I'm sorry, my Hot Rod doesn't get here until April, so I can't post a related picture)

You're never stupid for wanting to do something different for your collection. It's YOUR collection. Do you want the fun toon styles of SS86 and don't care about scale? Superator's superior no more!

I can patch screw holes on SS86 Grimlock’s dino head and neck with the magic of Photoshop fix. Still, those screw holes are really not aesthetically pleasing in person.

Just got a giant sword in the mail. Now all I need is a giant Grimlock to wield it. Hoping he shows up in a store soon. Isn't there a site people have been using to check for Target stock on certain figures?

    PXL_20210116_231639973.PORTRAIT~2.jpg

Thank you for this! I'll definitely check out Fusion 360 because I have been wanting to get into it, but it's always seemed so complex. Intuitive and lots of tutorials sounds good though. I think my local library has a 3d printer too, so I might could look into that as an option

This next figure is not the best of the Wave 1 Deluxes from this line, but I gotta say he’s probably the one that has surprised me the most in how much better he is than his most recent offering from Titans Return.
    0EE5C97D-E81D-4D6A-97D6-58D05162CA3B.jpeg
Blurr is a really slick looking Autobot. I’m a fan of the TR version, but this figure is so much better. Like Kup, the headsculpt is not quite right for some reason (both just seem slightly off from their screen counterparts), but his color scheme is very accurate and his design is very screen faithful and really smooth looking.

His alt mode has got some damn sexy curves to it. I love how the transformation helps to make it appear that it’s actually hovering, more so than TR. Blurr pulls off a neat little trick in how his shoulders transform that adds to the effect. The white inlaid detail on the windshield helps to make for really cool glare effects, like his own built-in cel animation generator.

Despite the hefty cuff kibble, which is my only real quibble, Blurr actually cuts quite the “dashing” figure. The underarm mailboxes might be more forgivable if they were hinged further back on the arm instead of directly to his hand/wrist. Kinda hinders the articulation at that spot, but it’s still workable. Aesthetically, it really doesn’t look or feel as bad as the pics make it out to be, honestly. Just a minor quibble for me.

I love the backgrounds from these figures so far and how they’re being individually tailored to scenes that each character played an important part in. I hope they stick to this idea rather than repeating the same backgrounds over and over like in the regular SS line. I also like that they’re coming with screen specific accessories too. Blurr comes with his rifle and the welding tool he was using on Junkion. Official storage for these is very clunky for this figure and doesn’t help the look at all.
    CB615E33-978A-4347-AC2C-E519D3B5B5E7.jpeg
If they made it to where his rifle could peg in straight instead of sideways and a bit further back under his nosecone, this might look ok. As it stands, this just straight up sucks. The welding tool pegs in over the stock of the rifle, btw, but you can’t tell from this angle, sorry. But, trust me, it just don’t look right. I discovered a neat solution though.
    385C63A2-E0D0-46E5-BB74-F9D77B725DF1.jpeg 693F6558-1197-4CBF-A1DF-6B2EF1EF7DD5.jpeg
    A9B74BAB-B812-4A0D-88C1-7FDB5F3CF884.jpeg
In alt mode, there is a really big gap under where his feet peg into the shoulder sections. It is the perfect fit for the welding tool. Just be sure to place it in there before tabbing everything together underneath. The rifle wedges nicely in the space between his feet. The main drawback to this however is that he won’t sit flat on the ground. But, it does help to give him some serious high speed banking action.
    0CB69022-6F58-4CB3-9FEC-7C1B078694B7.jpeg
Bot mode storage is a different story.
    79FBCE68-C065-4845-B152-89C2F41B1E2A.jpeg F7980B8D-8BE5-4A60-A48E-548F4E59C008.jpeg
The welding tool will store in the gap found in his right ankle. It has to be placed and held just right as you close up the leg together, but once it’s in there it’s solid. Looks like it belongs there and fills in the hollow space nicely. And for those action aficionados, his rifle can be slung into his backpack.
Blurr is a really fun figure and surprisingly versatile too. Don’t let this one get away from you. Highly recommended!

No problem! I'm quite enjoying learning Fusion myself. It doesn't always want to help you, but once you get the hang of certain basics, I've found a lot of it kinda falls into place. It's good to start with a cartoon design like Ultra Magnus too, since he doesn't have a lot of complex molding besides his chest. I'd also suggest starting a thread to update your progress in the Creative GD, a lot of the CAD-based board members pop by and give advice. It's been very helpful for me, and it's just kinda nice to know other people like your idea and have an interest in seeing it.
