I now need to unload my Titans Return Hot Rod as well as my Hasbro MP-9.

Only reason I would consider Legends Hot Rod is to have a slick modernized Targetmaster for SS86 Hot Rod.

That's an opinion you have and you are welcome to it, but I don't think I can see very many similarities between any of the figures you listed; they all have very distinct silhouettes, gimmicks, transformations, colors, faces. The only thing they really have in common is a flame on the chest/hood.

I don't even think that's an opinion. If you think Classics Hot Rod looks anything like the other versions you really need your eyes checked. And the rest also have shockingly different silhouettes. Like, I can see looking at all of them in car mode and not being able to ID which is which. But their robot modes are surprisingly distinct.

Thinking the others are good enough is fine and a perfectly valid opinion, but thinking they look the same just objectively isn't true.

Picked up Hot Rod and Scourge this evening.

Hot Rod isn't bad. I find his transformation a bit of a chore lining everything up, and the one leg doesn't stay closed that well, but I'm happy to have the figure.

I just got Hot Rod today and I know I’m in the minority but I was able to figure his transformation without instructions. Yea he’s fiddity but it was ok to transform.

This may be the best mainline figure I have ever bought at this pricepoint. I have been collecting since the RID days and before that if you count my G1 toys as a kid. Mini-masterpiece indeed. Yeah I know he isn't voyager sized but who the eff cares? The fact that you can do the "You got the touch" part from the movie makes it an immediate 11/10, disregard the fact that he comes with two rifles, blast effects, and his saw.

Just shut the front door. I am not a particular fan of Hot Rod 'cause his bitch ass got Prime killed, but hot damn.

Gonna echo what everyone else is saying in that this guy is incredible. Between him and Scourge (who isn't quite as good but still great), I'll definitely be looking forward to more of this line.

Quick warning to be careful with the tabs on his pipes, though. I think I tried doing something out of order and ended up breaking one of them. Don't think it'll affect things too much, but still.

Found the issue with the one leg not closing up as tightly as the other.
The gray ankle joint was running into the folded car panels, so if it was in any other position than a flexed out foot, it would keep the calf piece from locking in.
I shaved the gray joint with a chisel blade to make it thinner, which doesn't affect the stability at all.
The end result is a leg that closes nice and tight!

    Joint piece in question:

When flexed out, the calf closes fine:

I shaved the face of the joint that goes into the foot (ignore the roughness, I haven't
    finished cleaning it up):

    Bingo!

Don't know if this works for anyone other than me,

I rotated the head backwards for transformation and now the car tabs together perfectly

That's actually needed if you don't want Hot Rod's head to be seen through the windshield. On a side note, there's just enough room to put Dia-Nauts next to his head during transformation to alt mode.

This is really impressive. Mini masterpiece gets thrown around a lot these days but in this case I’d say it’s true.

This is one of those ones designed to thumb its nose at the old guard who just can’t grasp the concept of pricepoint being determined by anything other than height. If you can’t wrap your brain around concepts like parts count and paint apps. If all you need is BIG PRICE TOY HAVE BIG HEIGHT then there’s always those Titan Changer things that will work for you. Really impressive engineering flexing with this.

Really Impressed with this guy, I just got him today and he is pretty great.

    Positives:
    • Great sculpt
    • Great articulation
    • Great accessories
    • Perfect likeness
    • Cool car mode
    • Great gimmicks
    Cons:
    • (IMO) The transformation is a PAIN IN THE ASS with all the unfolding and stuff not wanting to stick in place.
    • Yellow behind the windshield is kinda annoying.

How many times have you transformed him? Mine was like that at first, esp. going to car mode, but now that he's broken in, all the parts go together and stay together much more smoothly.

I've flipped him about 7 times so far.

I will admit, it has been getting slightly easier, but the headlights and forearms still give me a lot of trouble lining them up and pegging them in.

That's a shame. Mine eased in after one or two.

One thing that really helps on mine: the yellow chest assembly also tabs into the collar area in car mode, but I have to tab it in after I've gotten the arms in place or else it throws everything off. I don't know why.

That takes more transformations to break in due to the paint in the shoulder groove. Some people have shaved down the tab slightly if still not flush after that, but I haven't had to do that.
