To me it's obvious on shows like Storage Wars in not necessarily fake, but planted. But guys like Dave Hester is the type of Person that will try to hold on to his 15 minute of fame or try to bring down as much people with him as much as he can.

Most reality shows actually are "fake" in the sense that the outcome is already known. They won't film a particular scene unless they know who the buyer will be beforehand. HGTV does this quite often with their "house hunters" show. They won't even begin filming an episode until a couple has purchased a home and has fully gone through all the paperwork. They then film the couple looking at other homes after they have actualy already purchased a home.

It's unusual, but it makes sense in the context of a legal perspective. I haven't read this article about storage wars though (never really cared for that show anyways). I never believed their estimates of the junk they find is accurate. At least I've never seen anyone pay more than 10 dollars for an old junky couch before.

The settlement is going to start out low but he'll keep yelling "YUUUUUUP" until it's at a number he's comfortable with. And then he'll open up the briefcase and it'll be old vhs tapes and family photos.

Also Storage Wars is staged? No shit, I'm sure everyone is totally shocked by that announcement.

I call LV100 Bull-Haxorus on this one. I love this show, I've seen every episode at least 10 times, there's no way in hell, Mars, Earth or Cybertron, that the show is fixed. That's like saying the Earth is flat, “The Avengers” sucked, or the 12/21/2012 “Mayan Apocalypse” will happen.

    Stupid. Just stupid.

Uh... Why do you think it's so impossible that the events shown in the show, from the auctioning to the purchase to the evaluations, are impossible to stage, out of curiosity?

Hey, I'm just glad this means no more asshole Dave and his "YUUUUUP!" on the show anymore.

Maybe they weren't from an open casino or were otherwise non-acceptable tender, and were essentially souvenirs by that point?

Or maybe they were waiting for the heat to die down.

They were good, they went and used them at the end of the show. It wasn't such a huge amount that would make you think they were stolen or anything.

Like I said. Things get planted in the show so the people bidding will fight over them.

Awesome! Let's hope this starts a trend of reality shows getting exposed as BS and they all get pulled off the air and...

    I should stop dreaming.

Drugs then. Going with drugs. Which explains the chips AND why they were in a confiscated storage locker.

Because it comes down to luck of the draw. You won't what's in your locker until you get in there and start digging. If you didn't win it, sorry, better luck next time. That's my philosophy on it.

You do realize that it's beyond plausible that they could just plant the stuff in the storage before shooting and then ACT like they don't know it's there?

The thing is you don't seem to want to acknowledge you're doing EXACTLY what these people want you to believe: that this stuff is "real", happening in real life, and stuff like that. It's not. Reality TV pretty much has, and always will be, a complete sham if lots and lots of potential money is involved.

And people wonder why I always say Junkyard Wars was the best reality show of all time...

Well, that's assuming the lockers themselves aren't staged to begin with, or looked over with more scrutiny than is allowed normally "off-camera" in order to weed out more "tv-friendly" lockers from others, or that the interactions between the various "players" aren't effectively performances, or that entire lockers aren't edited out from the footage shown on tv (such as one the "stars" don't end up winning), etc. etc. etc. I'm not saying the entire show is phony, or even that the things I mentioned previously are happening, but doesn't it strike you as a little odd that the stars seem to win every auction, and make thousands of dollars on the content on a really consistent basis?

I imagine there's more than a little "massaging" of the events to make it more palatable to the audience, is what I'm saying. It also bothers me that they all get these estimates on the value of an item, but the actual sale of that item (and how much they make on it) is rarely if ever shown.

What I also find interesting is when someone wins a locker, is the numbers they pull out of their ass when they appraise their stuff. It's like "Oh yeah, this old cup. I can get $50. And look at this. These worn out shoes. $75."
