I dunno man. We have people in this board that would argue the G1 cartoon insecticons are iconic characters even though they were just another of the 100 Decepticons who were "generally bad guys with a speech quirk". People are allowed to like whatever they want.

I'll take that over Decepticon Wheelie in Revenge of the Fallen, who's defining characteristic is that he likes to hump Megan Fox's leg.

He only did that once and he was actually pretty funny; one of the few redeeming factors of that film.

(Sigh)...This just seems like one of those "If you don't agree or think like me, then you're not a real fan"-type discussions....

I think he was a good character, but I also feel like his personality changed from film to film, and as the writing got worse (which it definitely did), so did he- in some ways.

I think one of the main reasons people have issues with the movies is because the movies feel rather disjointed- instead of feeling like 1 giant adventure, they feel (or least some of them do) like a collection of side stories that were written by different people.

And because of that, there seems to be some inconsistency with characters like Prime- they're not the same from the beginning to end- you can tell somebody else was writing/brainstorming for them from film to film.

And it's because of that inconsistency that I could see why some people might look at him and go: Meh, he's just a CGI spectacle- no depth....

And let's just say that's the case- let's say I'm right and that's actually what happened: So what. People can like what they like. Nothing wrong with that.

We got some amazing toys out of the movies, some of the best Optimus Prime toys ever made came from the movies, and that's frankly all I've ever cared about- so I'm satisfied with how things went. ^_^

 

I agree with most of what you said; while the Bee movie did dip into the misandrist territory I don’t think it was enough to be problematic. The brother ended up helping her out; mom’s moron boyfriend ended up helping out in a pretty good way and the... well, dunno if the word will get me in trouble here, but the would be (friend zoned) boyfriend was also instrumental in helping Charlie. They weren’t worthless.

 

Let’s not pretend that G1 doesn’t receive it own levels of irrational hate.

 

As far as I’m concerned the fact that Bay’s aspect of the movies are over- and likely Prime’s portrayal with it. That alone should be reason enough for people to drop it and move on.

 

If you don't like it then don't read it. Scrolling beyond it takes no calories.

 

BP has a point, though, if you don't like his opinions on stuff just put him on block.

Anyway, I don't have real strong feelings for Bay Prime one way or the other. That said, I can see how some of his more... questionable actions could happen considering all the horrible stuff he's had to live through.

Plus, y'know, an action movie requires action to be profitable. The sage father-figure that is the G1 character isn't going to be as loved by the normies.

Some people are realistic enough to realize that when the voluntarily go online or in a discussion forum they are bound to view content that they might find disagreeable- and take appropriate actions to avoid it.
Others seem to have a weird sense of entitlement to expect every post and opinion to be of their approval and liking.​

I personally don't see any difference between G1 Optimus and Bay's Optimus- except that G1 couldn't kill because they needed live bad guys to sell toys throughout the season long, multi-episode narrative.
Bay's Optimus has to kill because each movie is self enclosed and only comes once every few years, so there needs to be results for the sake of finality before that short narrative is over. I don't think the normies would put up with much different.

 

That's fair. I just think seeing bots having their heads blown off is a huge driving force for buying that ticket.

Now thet you brought it up, I really don't see the point in an Optimus Prime movie when he's been portrayed multiple times as a bloodlusting, unstoppable autobot leader with no equals except Megatron (who was stupid enough to pull himself out of the Cybertron action).

This movie would have no antagonists because all the Travis cons either fears him or there are no other "Meg-leveled" villains in their rank that's able to step up to him.
