It's a poor reflection on him...I'm sorry I can't fault the chap who made this.

By Primus, imagine if he does the whole movie and Optimus Timelord does all of Target: 2006 as a tie-in...

That was fun, and they did a great job with it!

Ha! I see what you did there. :D

Yes, it really is an amazing job! One of my favorite sequences in the movie, too.

    Ohh, snap!!
I've seen a few attempts to tackle scenes from the movie, but this is the best by far (folks may recall me saying I tend to avoid it, because the animation is so great to start with it's hard to feel like I can improve on it). But apart from a recurring greenscreen issue on the figures I really enjoyed that. And I know how much work goes into combining figures with 2D, so perhaps I can appreciate it all the more!
    Hah!
Ha, yes I did notice that (I would have definitely replaced that).

Maybe he can take over when I abdicate :lol

Well that clip was the last thing I saw last night, and although it didn't give me nightmares I did have a slight feeling of:

But on reflection this morning The Watcher has a long way to go yet. I don't know if you guys notice stuff like this (because I certainly cheat a lot myself and rarely get complaints) but in that still frame above, Hot Rod's hips and legs have really been distorted far beyond what I would consider necessary (which is to say, you can get away with some distortion - but there's a tipping point when the 'trick' becomes obvious and therefore isn't a trick anymore). I'm also seeing the body of toon Hot Rod underneath. That and the lack of focus in some shots makes me feel rather more secure on my throne than I did last night

Hope that doesn't sound overly critical, because if this is the guy's first go at this he's certainly hit the ground running (as Daniel almost did!). And I'm more than happy to see someone working on the movie this way.

I also think the lighting Optimus time Lord does is much closer to the scene than the watcher managed, hotrod looked like a green screen effect there, yet Optimus and Megatron are always much more integrated, using old cartoon techniques where interactables are a little different color palate (by being also 3d) and blending away the mess of blue tack holding the fishing pole.

(I can have hot rod hold his pole just fine with those hands too, even had a weight on it.. so, there's a bit of a flawed approach to the technique.)

I guess everyone has a different level of awareness/attention to detail that they're happy with. I'm always striving to push things to be as good as I possibly can, though nothing is ever perfect, but that amount of green-screen fringing would bug me a lot. Trouble is, there isn't an easy way around it. So you gotta either put in the extra work or settle for what you got.

But you're right about my lighting/colour tint. As I've worked on these scenes over the years (how time flies!) I've gradually refined ways of integrating the figures into the backgrounds, and that's part of the fun of it, the reward of feeling like your characters are part of the scene rather than just added on top. But it took a while before I experimented with tweaking colours and doing reflections and whatnot. From what I can tell from that clip it seems colour hasn't been thought about much yet, but I'm sure it'll come. Maybe it's the camera or the lighting, but MP Hot Rod's lovely magenta colour has been almost lost to a basic flat red. Reminds me, I never did do a gif of that figure :lol

I think a few too many fans of hot rod demand he is red because they'd feel awful for liking a PINK robot.

I really wanted Hasbro to make the SS86 Hot Rod more pinkish, but they’re COWARDS and refuse to give us pink Hot Rod.

Pretty neat, I think he did a pretty good job. A few critizism (positive critics is a thing we all need) are:
    1. It seems like there were many moments he didn't fully trim the image causing the green screen to appear a few times.
    2. Hot Rod's running animation was jacked with a lot of blur from what I saw.
    3. I've already set up my nightmare appointment with those lip flaps. That is by biggest criticism, he made all the lip flap the same way, moving the nose too making it look jarring.
    4. This one stood out to me, but FT Koot has articulated hands, yet he just sorta photoshopped him on to Blitzwing despite the fact the figure could probably pull it off on his own.

Maybe the issue was the cannon on that 3P Blitzwing isn't designed to tilt up? Though if that's the case and the designers didn't at least try to make it happen, then they missed the mark.
