@DarkCrystalite, one example of "cheating" is with this gif I made a while ago. Optimus' chest windows are not the real truck windows on this figure, so each arm covers the truck windshield for a frame or two and those frames are when I switch the truck windows to the bot windows. It's so quick that the eye doesn't pick up a change like that unless you're looking for it. It's just to trick the viewer into thinking something moves different than it actually does

How am I only seeing this now?

Anyway I'm glad I'm seeing it today. It's long been my dream to see a Transformers show based on the Marvel Transformers comics and if it was done by Optimus Timelord it would be perfection.

Why today? It's my birthday and this has been the highlight of an already great day.

That's some one of a kind stop motion magic, extra points for the hand-draw and animated Zarak head! I love that scene, to this day it's one of the definite moments in TF fiction for me.

Hey @OptimusTimelord , are you planning on getting any of the G1 RED guys to use for clean cartoon stop motion?

Yeah, I wonder how they would look. I may personally try to do the battle on the dam, I just want to see the actual quality of the figure first.

I've heard that the quality is rough, though they look great, super G1 accurate, almost to a fault.

I heard the same too. Great Accessories, Great look, Megatron is good but Optimus is really shaky in the quality department.

Was scrolling the thread and now I wanna start again lol. Don't think I ever posted any of these here? From a while ago. I know I have a lot of room for improvement still, so any tips appreciated

    ezgif-3-5b2b3c3929c2.gif ezgif-3-dbc21f9803d0.gif ezgif-3-448e1c3b6c18.gif ezgif-3-8c73d46337fc.gif ezgif-3-957b97997bfb.gif

I was testing having the camera follow the movement of a certain point on each figure. Ironhide and Optimus follow the chest movement through transformation. Jetfire zooms into the cockpit. This gif uses the "cheating" talked about earlier, since the bot cockpit and jet cockpit are not the same one. My original plan was to remake it with the full transformation from jet to bot using the technique but I just never got around to it. Bluestreak had the legs stay in a single spot while the rest of the body spun around for transformation (don't know how to fix it being sideways:lol ). And Ratchet was a test to try and get a slightly higher frame rate (which is something I know I need to work on for smoothness)

Precisely! It works because it just looks like the windows are emerging off the truck (I don't have the figure and know nothing about the transformation, so it totally fools me!).
    :bday
Thanks! I do love the early TF comics, especially the UK ones, but it's fair to say things were starting to get a little... dull... for a while there in the US. But Furman's taking over of the American storyline and turning it into an epic 'coming of Unicron' serial absolutely remains some of all time favourite TF fiction! :thumb
To be honest I wasn't. But I don't know much about them really, for example how many moving parts do they have? Guys like MP Op and Megs are packed with the kind of articulation you need for animation.
Another thing that bothers me about the line is their standard scale, where Skyfire stands as tall as Bumblebee etc. It's a shame they didn't have two or three tiers of size. I guess if they made some rare characters like Emirate Xaaron I'd definitely be interested!
A fair bit of post-production trickery if I recall! The lights are effects added on after. The legs pressing together and arms retracting etc are again done via Photoshop to exaggerate what the actual figure was capable of.
They are all very good :thumb  I don't even have much to add for tips :lol  One thing, and this only really applies to your Ratchet gif, is that a smooth floor often means the figure slides around while you handle it, so you either need to keep an eye on where the character is frame to frame or perhaps fix him down with something like Blu Tack. If Ratchet's right foot and left knee for example were anchored it would probably improve the shot. I generally have mine stood on cardboard which isn't too slippery. But I'll often also mark out with pencil where they are stood or a line to follow for direction if they are moving.

So I know I said I don't really do movie scenes, but sometimes you just gotta go with the flow...

animation I made for my friend's 15th wedding anniversary (quarantine rules, can't have a party, so a bunch of friends are subbmitting videos to one friend who's compiling it all together and sending it to them)

Dang, I didn't realize that the wings were gone. The animation was that fun to watch!

Also that's cool of you to make that for your friend's wedding anniversary!
