I'm honestly still amazed there hasn't ever been an official Herbie & Transformers crossover. It's such an obvious thing to do. They could even insinuate that Herbie is a sibling of Bee's, just somehow unable to transform. (Ala Magnus and Prime in some continuities. Twin brothers.)

Plus... think of the MP and Generations possibilities in terms of decos.

 

He has "MAGA" written in Cybertronian script on the side.

 

frankly, since we've had an actual pursuit of Thundercracker being racist (because of "cracker") i'd expect any general lee to be intentionally filthy and beat up to at least the level it was in the recent movie before being upgraded to the classic design.

i'd be shocked if they even tried for it to be a bad cot with Decepticon logos instead of the stars in the flag, but yeah, since Charlottesville it's really unlikely any general lee meant for wide retail release would have the flag. (for us shores at least)

 

Maybe because I haven't seen the new movie, but I can picture the new movie Bumblebee design decked out as Herbie a lot easier than I can a redeco of MP-21 or 45.

I'd not heard that about Thundercracker. I do remember the fuss over a character called Spastic a while ago, and here in the UK Slag was always a dodgy name! Name changes don't bother me that much, guess I'm used to them (what with Japanese names like Convoy on MP boxes, and Hasbro's legal need to rename so many characters these days). Putting out a General Lee with a different flag would feel wrong though.

I just got that MPM, my official first ever movie toy. And his alt mode does indeed cry out for it imo.   It's probably my favorite VW Beetle alt mode ever. I had to buy it just for that alone. (Plus Amazon JP had him with a discounted price the other day of only $46 USD shipped. Couldn't turn that down.)

The new chibi/penny racer MP in Herbie deco would be interesting, but I agree not quite as cool.

Didn't see this when replying to your earlier post. This is AMAZING as always. As others mentioned, the little vibrations are what sells that it's the toon in 3D form. Just an incredible attention to detail!

 

I love the little details you give the animation such as the wavering in Wheeljack and Trailbreaker. Great job, I love your work!

 

Seeing all the awesome animations on this thread makes me wonder why HasTak doesn't make a series completely based on stop motion. The pro for them is that it would be the ultimate toy ad. The stuff they did when MP-22 came out, MPM Beetle Bee, and the combiner battle thing were really awesome.

Thanks! I agree, the alt mode from the new movie really captures the classic Herbie Beetle in a way neither MP alt modes do.

Cheers, yeah that's tricky to do because you can draw a vehicle with two slightly different outlines yet seen from the same perspective and it looks like vibration, whereas you can't really take two different photos of a figure without it looking like the vehicle is alternating between two positions. FWIW I think I pulled it off with Wheeljack, but Trailbreaker not so well.
