Jack Nicolson said no I believe. He straight up retired from acting in 2010 or 2013.

Henry Thomas who played lloyd the bartender was told to channel Jack just a tiny bit at the end of that scene by the director.

In the Doctor Sleep book they are at the Overlook location, but it's a campground.

Well, if he wanted to do something for money, he appears to have been better off making a small cameo in Terminator 6, as it made WAY more money than it did. And, it's considered a bomb.

Being that if he were smart, he'd negotiate for a sum of the profit, and not just five million front. (Or, whatever.)

Stephen King Reacts to Doctor Sleep's Box Office Bomb

"If you liked DOCTOR SLEEP, don't spend the weekend moping over box office. Talk about the film, what you dug, and and inspire others to check it out. Let your championship be meaningful that way. Don't let everyone's hard work be immediately reduced and defined by numbers."

"Agree. It's a terrific movie. Take a friend and dig the vibe."

    Encouraging I guess.

King is probably trying to make up for his foolishness with the Kubrick film.

I can't say I'm surprised this movie bombed though. It came out AFTER Halloween. By now, people have moved away from horror movies as they want to see the new string of garbage Oscar bait.

Every movie bombed this weekend. :p

The Midway movie is a bigger bomb, lol. "#1" with 17.5 mil opening weekend vs a 100 mil budget (wiki).

The good Doctor Sleep at number 2 with 14.5 vs 45-50 mil budget (wiki).

Well playing with fire did better then they expected. (yes the cena movie with my little pony everywhere!)

Still it didn't light the world on fire. Of course in two weeks frozen 2 comes out!

As for dr sleep I had people who didn't know it was a shinning follow up! (should have called it shinning 2) I also know people who never saw the first film at all and even ones who only know it from ready player one! That makes me feel old again.

$50 million means they're inevitably going to make a profit in the long run. Even including the ad campaign, which I don't know how much they spent on that but they should have invested a little bit more and found more interesting hooks... Like the young girls who get super into Halloween love Stanley Kubrick's The Shining, so I don't know why I saw this trailer in front of my screening of Terminator Dark Fate instead of say Hustlers. Also, like people said, this would have done better in October.

But the aftermarket exists and can be very profitable. Worst case scenario there's two studios financing this and WB is just distributing so they all only lose so much when you look at it that way. But watch this shit happen to Marvel's $300 million Eternals movie that they're producing and distributing themselves and no one wants or cares about. Now THAT'S a loss waiting to happen

Never heard of Playing with Fire until just now, but looking it up, not only is it a garbage movie, but it has Keegan Michael Key in it. WTF? That's like the third movie in a row that dude has been in that is terrible. Clearly the talent of Key and Peele is really starting to come to light, which is a shame.

Oh yeah, didn't that awful looking Christmas movie with Danerys come out this weekend too?

Not sure why the box office is doing so badly right now. Watched all 3, Dark Fate, Doctor Sleep, and Midway. I enjoyed them all and thought they were all above avg. Guess no one feels like going to the movies till SW.

I'm not a huge horror fan, which is why I enjoyed Doctor Sleep more than I thought I would. It had an almost action movie vibe for most of the film until the end, which I wish had lasted longer.

Not thrilled about how they're doing this. You have to buy the 4K version to get the Director's Cut on BD, but the 4K disc is ONLY the theatrical version. Why the hell is the DC not also on the 4K disc?

Because if they separate the two versions, then you have to buy two versions of the same movie.

No, what I mean is that the DC is not going to be available in 4K, only 1080P. That makes no sense to me. BOTH the 4K disc AND BD should include the director's cut.

Which makes one have to buy both, doesn't it?

No, you get both in the same package. 4K discs and Blu-Ray discs come packaged with each other like Blu-Rays and DVDs did.
