Hey all! Jetfire here is a modification and repaint of the new Voyager Highbrow mold. If you haven't picked up the toy yet. I would definitely urge you to do so. Outside of some poseability issues, it is a very nice mold with many unique features. Jetfire himself was achieved by carving out the original face, and replacing it with a Cybertron Mudflap faceplate. I wanted to make sure I retained the slide down "goggles" part of the helmet, so getting the face to fit just right was quite tricky. I then sanded down a few areas that inhibited poseability, as well as grinding the channel a little deeper for the cockpit assembly. This allowed the simulation of Jetfire's trademark "backpack." Topping it all of with a dirtier version of his red and white color scheme, I think this is a cool reimagining of the Autobot Air Guardian. Thanks for looking!
AMAZING i love the idea of the older seekers, i wanted to make him into air raid i cant get over the face work you did, huge payoff, it screams jetfire love the backpack mod too i didn't realize the figure had so much 'mechanical' detail your paintjob makes the details pop great work, make more seekers
A very cool steampunk version of Jetfire! Reminds me of the old G.I. Joe/Transformers crossover by Dreamwave comics (drawn by Jae Lee), as it looks like he could've been plucked right out from that era. Great job man!
Very cool reimagining of Jetfire - like the others said, possibly not steam punk as such, but that's just a technicality. For some reason, the goggles-down form of his face reminds me of Abe Sapien...
Agree with the above point, but yeah... this looks FANTASTIC! Absolutely works for Jetfire... and the sliding faceplate is a nice solution to the ol' Jetfire "battlemask" question. The detail painting is excellent, and doesn't clutter the design at all. Beautiful! I had the same thought when I first saw Highbrow... it's pretty close in overall look to Abe's movie goggles. Highbrow is an amazing figure. I recommend anyone who is on the fence, just buy him already. You won't be disappointed. I'm not even sure what Sculpt-Bot means by "poseability issues"... he's one of the most articulated, pose-friendly TF molds to hit the shelves in quite a while, I think. PS: Not sure if this has made the rounds yet, but you can actually place his gatling cannons in the screw-holes on either side of the cockpit, rather than crowding them onto the already tiny wings. Looks better that way, I think. zmog
I thought brass goggles made something automatically "steampunk?" Just kidding! Yeah, I thought the same thing! almost want to paint one up in Abe's colors now! The poseability issues weren't really in reference to his articulation, just more in alluding to the fact that with some of the tabs on his arms, wings folded over the hips, and the prop blades, his midsection gets cluttered really quickly when posing him outside of the normal "at attention" pose. Thanks for the tip on the gun mounting! i hadn't realized that! I just had a gentleman contact me to commission a squadron of seeker characters from this mold (after seeing Jetfire!) His versatility will help pull off their different looks.
I think it's very interesting seeing how your work has evolved over the last couple of years. This looks nice
I like the panel lining you used, as well as the colors. I might have been inclined to add more smaller square panels on top of the existing ones, to give him that 'I've been in a serious fight' look, popped the propellers off, added a little tubing and made those engines steam turbine powered. But...I only have the one Highbrow, so I'm not messing with it. Why? Because he is awesome in the original and in your version. The character should have looked like this in the movie, it would have made more sense.
I really like what you've done here SB. I already love this mold, and you took it to the next level here with your custom. Bravo sir
